Yes it's a bit cotton wool for the world's most talented racing drivers.Mind you the most exciting race we attended last year was a damp Hockenheim, so there remains a slither of hope for F1

I agree.Could Panis win today ? The remote Data Centre would probably decide.
If it was also raining today, possibly.
The cars are so much more reliable now and the best contemporary drivers tend to migrate to the best teams/cars; depth in talent eg. team/driver combination who are third best overall can win race(s) but not WDC such Senna/Lotus, Schumi/Benetton pre-'94 - which makes Vettel's first win for himself and Minardi/Torro Rosso even more extraordinary!
