Why would Lawrence (& pals) fund a team & Aston Martin and then at the same time pay for his son to drive at another competitor team?
Lance will be going nowhere pretty much regardless of what he does. That said as weak as his qualifying pace usually is, he has improved it since last season and he does tend to race well. He keeps out of trouble and generally makes up places in a race rather than falling off the track, he's far from the best driver in F1 but he does the job he's there to do even if Perez and Vettel would be the better pairing.
I joked about his ability but I don't think he's that bad really. If his dad wasn't Lawrence Stroll I think we'd be less critical (possibly because he wouldn't be in an F1 car...) but he's had some decent results, Perez isn't, I don't think, embarrassing him, though he is beating him (and I don't rate Perez particularly highl either) and Lance is quite entertaining to watch as he either loves poking the tail out or just hasn't learnt how to avoid it.

Stroll looking pretty handy today. Maybe RB move Albon and bring Vettel back, and the Racing Points keep both drivers for next year??

Little Stroll certainly looked good today in tricky conditions. Maybe there is some mileage to the claims about next year.

Yes, he appears to be a pretty decent racing driver. The way he is driving at present I think he deserves to be there on merit.

If his dad wasn’t Lawrence Stroll he would never have seen the inside of an F1 car. As you’ve noticed he’s regularly beaten by someone who isn’t rated too highly for anything other than nursing a set of tyres.

Perez is pretty decent and would be on my short list of drivers to have especially as he brings money too.

Perez said in an interview this weekend that it's obvious which one is leaving the team if Vettel signs.

Young Lance was pretty effective in the lower formulae and now he's getting experience on Grand Prix circuits with a well performing car. I'm not saying that he's a World Champion of the future but some World Champions of the past haven't started as well as he has.

Given the crap cars he's driven until this season it's hard to make a proper judgement about how good he really is. Some drivers just can't perform in a car that doesn't work how they like it, look at Button as a prime example of that.

Or think of it another way, the it's likely George Russell will have beaten 2 team mates who are there purely down to cash and will have failed to score a point in his first 2 seaons in F1. That record on paper isn't someone worthy of being in F1 either, but there's more to it than that.

Ok im not so happy with the stuff going on outside the car where they seem to be preying on the meek perez exterior but large stroll is quite a good father.
Even with his billions he still wants his son to eclipse his own efforts and be a f1 world champion.
Shame they seem to want to do it at the expense of Perez.
The ideal solution is not to sign vettel. Has the glutton not had enough success and cracks at the title?
This is the only bit thats really wrong. Even someone supposedly ruthless like alonso didn't want to go there.

I'd love it, I don't rate Ocon. Seeing Vettel and Alonso go toe to toe would be great! The Drama would be even better!!
It would certainly produce some drama, however short the season is next year.

Agreed, it must be gutting to win F2 ahead of Lando Norris and Alexander Albon by some margin only to see the guys you beat in much better cars.

Just watched The Inside Line. Apparently Racing Point have a clause which they can release Perez. However, if i heard it right, the clause must be initiated before the end of July......

Anyone else watch this/did I hear it right?
