I guess we always knew it's be a looker.. but side by side with the Merc shows just how elegant the Aston is. Good for the brand.

The current Aston lineup have a look only a mother could love. Gopping.

The DBX I just can't warm to. Looks Korean. Sure they'll be fine as course cars, though they aren't a patch on a Fiat Tipo.
In the photos it can look a bit generic. However I think in the flesh they look good.I had a good look at one that was parked locally. I have no love for big cars generally, but the DBX really works.
I’m glad to see the Merc stranglehold being broken.

Take away the commercial aspect, what would actually be the best cars for these jobs? ...and the DBX medical car

Personally I’d be knocking on the door of Porsche... 911 Turbo S for the safety car role and Cayenne Turbo S for the Medical car. I’d also have the same for a dedicated ‘extraction/fire’ car that always deploys with the medical car.
Let the medics do their bit and extraction concentrate on that aspect.
I also think the limited role these cars do, why have such a bulky light bar on the roof which puts weight high up and a big drag on performance. All the necessary lighting could be housed internally.
Also., From endurance racing, why can they not have race control have the ability to speak to all teams / drivers to issue directions instantly. Works so well in endurance.

Unless it sits in Mercedes portfolio, we won’t see a Ferrari/Mclaren/Alpine-Renault/Honda safety car.

This. I've seen a couple in the flesh now and it's a really good looking car, for an SUV. It's weird how something can look so plain in pictures look so good in person. And the interior is another level.I had a good look at one that was parked locally. I have no love for big cars generally, but the DBX really works.

F1 has a dedicated Extraction Team and vehicles. The vehicles are currently supplied by Mercedes and that is not going to change. Only the Safety and Medical cars will rotate with Aston. An extraction test is carried out every year at the GP -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHGVai_4tpI
The fire trucks are provided by the circuit. Silverstone has pick ups, which are ideal for the job.
The light bars need to be on the roof to be easily visible from a distance, just like a normal emergency services vehicle. A light bar on the roof isn't going to make any appreciable difference to response times!
If you read the investigation into Grosjean's crash, you will note -
"The FIA Medical Car arrived within 11 seconds of the incident, a time achieved partly due to the fact a ‘short cut’ was taken to avoid turn 1, demonstrating both local circuit knowledge and pre-planning."
High speed tests of the safety and medical cars are carried out during each GP weekend. Circuit knowledge, and the speed of dispatch of responders to the incident is what is crucial. You will note from the same report that the race was red-flagged within 5.5 seconds of the incident.
Don't forget that the medical car is far from being the only responder vehicle and except for the 1st lap, is unlikely to be "first on scene". That will be the marshals from the closest marshal point, who will then summon the medic at their post/closest post with a medic, and the incident will be escalated from there as appropriate.

Behave! Not as lovely as the previous generation imo but hardly gopping..
They are hideous things. Aston have made some mingers and stunners in the past, the current lineup is not attractive, it wont last long. But I think it's a stretch to say the current range are hideous.

It's pretty bold for AM to double down on F1 when it's just lost (another) £500m.
Maybe they are doubling down on this because they know that their principle source of advertising is hanging up his PPK for good after this much delayed film. I don't just mean Craig. Just a thought....

I wouldn't bother taking seriously someone who makes opinion statements as fact such as "the current lineup is not attractive, it wont last long". Well, the DB11 & Vantage have been around for ages, the DBX has been very well received and lauded as the most attractive of the SUV bunch, one of the key reasons Astons sell is because of their looks. So I'll follow that with another opinion statement as fact: jsf is just plain wrong
You use a previous very attractive generation of car as the basis for the current mingers future? That's plain nuts. No way will that front last on the current car, the SUV will probably survive in its current form.

It's probably very cheap advertising for them. Also, the fact that AMG have relinquished that role in favour of Aston probably indicates that Mercedes are looking to strengthen their investment in the British brand.Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
