Haas retains Schumacher & Mazepin for 2022
Only the Alfa seat left then?I know Racefans was reporting de Vries the other week, but think I read some stuff about the Mercedes connection being a problem. Although that was probably only said after Toto's comments about Albon

Genuinely surprised at that.
+1Maybe they were able to convince him the 2022 car is awesome and give him number 1 status within the team?
I was a little surprised too, but I think the sticking point for Mick was that Ferrari lost much of their influence over the seat at Alfa Romeo as per when the contract for title sponsorship was extended with Sauber - a negotiated clause being that they do not have to take a Ferrari driver from 2022.
Whilst Alfa say they wish to retain some link with Ferrari when talking about Giovinazzi, I think this is a bit of media fluff and they are looking to bring in a rookie with good sponsorship backing instead and this is why the door was shut for Mick as a Ferrari junior.
Also, I still wouldn't be surprised to see Haas becoming Russian owned by Daddy Mazepin either for 2022 or by the end of that campaign... Gene Haas seems done with F1 now.

Would Schumacher's management want him to go to Alfa Romeo and see what happens when he goes up against Bottas? At this stage in his career he is likely to be out-qualified nearly every race. It's not impossible that Schumacher will never be at Bottas' level, let alone absolute top-flight.
I agree that for the first part of the season he'd probably be out-qualified, but I think Mick would be able to learn so much from sharing a garage with Bottas that it would be the better option of the 2 in my opinion.Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
