If the 2022 regs favour a ground effect type downforce, we all know who drives his best with a stable car...

I’d love to see Merc/Daimler run two teams.. LH & VB in one SV & GR in the other.. ( they’ve also got Stoffel & De Vries & Guiterez).

I’m sure there’s only 3 drivers (+ stroll) contracted for 2021, so I’m sure we’ll see a big change up ahead of the changes in 2022.
Brain fart. Who's GR? confused

!?

He drives for Williams. Hang around a few minutes after Lewis has crossed the line and you'll see George on the horizon.

I haven’t read everything but has it been asked how safe Albon is at Redbull? Could Vettel end up back there? I know Max is the golden child but it could make a cracking line up.

Albon will be fine, the chap/s who funded his early driving days from Thailand (who own an energy drink brand) will support him..

Max was once apon a time on the Young Merc drivers program..

The quick and the dead eh..

(Alex is plenty quick enough regardless of funding/background btw).

Albon is fine for now. RB don't take back former drivers.

Unless they can't fill a seat from their own stable (Harltey and Kyvat were both fired and then returned again later). It will be interesting if Albon doesn't make the grade (although I think he will be fine) because both the B-team drivers have already been tried and demoted from the A-team.

Anyway, Helmut has already come out and said there is no way they will have Vettel, so they are probably considering it...

Historically I’d understand why they’d go with him, I just hope they decide not to. I don’t recall another driver who seems to have had so many fallouts with so many teams - even his Indy500 dreams were dashed this year when Honda vetoed him.

You’ve got to admit, OCO & ALO would be fantastic viewing as a pairing.

Mercedes has been conspicuously quiet in all this, could we possibly see them with a 10 WDC pairing as of next year?

I had lunch with one of the board of Mercedes F1 last year; someone very close to Toto and he was adamant (as they have been in the press) that they never want another Hamilton-Rosberg situation. It cost too much in terms of management bandwidth to manage and was very polarising / destructive - two garages at war with each other.

I'd be more concerned if Mercedes were still a factory team next year.

Hamilton stays if Toto stays. But what role will he have? Leading Mercedes factory team or a spun out team with Mercedes power? Cost caps may make attracting a new owner more attractive.

Things change and it’s undeniable that what was possible or necessary at Mercedes F1 last year may not be so now.

Toto’s mission this year was to make the team self sustainable and that has taken a massive blow with the current crisis. Who knows what incentives Liberty might give to make the move happen?

There is apparently the "Toto clause" in the new F1 agreement that says no team principal can go straight to running FOM without a 2 year gap, which I guess must be a factor.

Toto has stated that vettel to merc would be a marketing dream, and they have to decide what to do with GR

Clever Toto. He's right of course, it would be a marketing dream... But probably not as much of a dream as maintaining the status quo and going for the next double championship.

I think his comments are the marketing. If you want headlines, hint that you're considering something everyone would be excited by - you don't actually have to do it.

If it's true that seb to Merc would get people talking, the obvious thing to do is to entertain that discussion. I wouldn't take it as evidence the idea is being given any serious thought however.

I suspect your comments are almost certainly spot on!

I'd be interested to see if GR replaces VB in 2021 though, I think that is a likely outcome.

Obviously assuming the rumours of Totto calling it a day after this season aren't true.
