Should street circuits like Monaco be dropped?

There are a few circuits on the F1 list were overtaking is so hard it rarely happens and I wonder why they persist in holding races on them?

A handful on here might agree with you.. But the viewing figures and F1 keenness for new street circuits are what counts.

In the case of Monaco, obviously it's not really suitable for F1 these days. But it's incredibly popular, historic... It's staying. Best advice is to come to terms with it as a novel race and find a way to enjoy it smile

The rest of the street circuits (Let's throw Hanoi in there too - even though it hasn't run yet) are generally a mixed bag in terms of racing. Baku is arguably exciting and incident strewn often purely because it provides no margin for error in several places. Singapore is a bit dull on the other hand - although the city scape makes for good viewing and being a night race helps.

On balance I'd say that Monaco ignored, because it's Monaco.. The average street circuit is about as decent a place to race in most people's eyes as any other. The hardcore fans of technical racing would probably rather F1 visited only permanent circuits.. But they too are in the minority, at least if you look at which races draw the greatest viewing figures.

I think the idea of F1 cars screaming through cities will always draw a crowd.

It's part of the heritage of what Grand Prix racing was once all about - so there should always be at least a couple of street races in the calendar - especially when there up to 20 races a year (2020 excepted, of course).
