Not when they destroy a viable company with so few entrants.

Times have changed.

That’s the first I’ve heard of that idea. I like the sound of it.
It didn’t work for Villeneuve and his manager, or even Prost with the French government. But that doesn’t mean it can’t work. Alonso knows the Enstone team and they know him.
I hope it happens.
I don't.

There is no place in the sport for a weasel like Briatore.
I am not a massive fan of that bloke either. But at least this time he won’t have Bernie watching his back.

I fear that this return will follow the usual Alonso pattern:

Loads and loads of hype in the media about his return to F1

A year of mediocre results and ever increasingly petulant radio messages blaming everyone but himself .

Acrimonious split with Renault and the end of the season.

Several articles in the media, charting the rise and fall of Fernando Alonso in F1.

I'm sure Renault know how it will likely go too. The thing is, they're probably quite happy to have a stream of 'Alonso' headlines this year and definitely many more next year. Whatever he's saying/doing to generate them. That is the point of having a 'star' driver, even when the car arguably doesn't justify having such a driver.

Without someone like Alonso to draw attention, how much attention would they have got next season? Their car is already effectively out of date this year (it was a very mild evo of last years car) and it's the car they will have again next year, they're looking like they're not really going to be fighting with anyone specific this year or next.. Certainly not the battle for fourth as they had going on last year with McLaren. Solution = bring back a headline generating driver.

F1 Twitter post a video from 2018 of Vettel saying "Goodbye Fernando, see you when you come back."

Alonso replies to it, "Soon together".

https://twitter.com/F1/status/1280850131215093764?...

Trolling or hinting? hehe

"Daniel, would you be happy to give up your car in FP1 sessions this year to help Fernando Alonso?"

"No, he doesn't need any help biggrin"

(He had his face mask on, but his face was definitely biggrin )

Renault already said he won't be doing any FP1 this year, but that he might do some private testing.

I think behind the scenes he has probably secured first dibs on buying the team for him & Flav. Kimoa F1 has a nice ring to it.
Kimi F1, would be more exciting.

(like a Hesketh for 21st C, but with more boozing)

Will Alonso constantly complain to the press about himself then ?

No he'd blame Renault. And when Renault's legacy of X, Y, Z can no longer be legitimately be blamed... he'd blame Renault. Christian Horner has probably already given Alonso his script.

heard that, if true its asking for trouble going into a budget limited era no?

I know driver salaries are excluded but still, unless they've calculated having Alonso drive is a x-million net loss for a team which with his gob might just be the case

I agree and it will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
There hasn't really been a continuous compelling narrative since Rosberg/Hamilton so Liberty are rolling the dice on this.
I doubt it will work but they are clearly desperate !

What a pointless tangent to take things on. We have yet to see him back and driving and now every thought will be about him usurping the team for himself.
One thing at a time please. Multitasking is proven to be a waste of talent and poisons the joy in any activity.

Having just watched qualifying for the Styrian GP... There is a whole rack of extremely talented youngsters who will give him a very hard time, hopefully anyway.
He's had his time, let the youngsters have their time.
Renault are desperate to prove they are worthy of their place on the grid before the board pull the plug....

Alonso will spend plenty of time with the team starting this year.
He will probably be testing regularly in the development prototypes to ensure they make a good car.

Fast young chargers with no experience.
They will sit there and just smile that it feels great (compared to the bus they were on this morning) and really fast!
They kids dont want to look out of their depth so it will be headlong positivity.
Engineers are absolved as the driver said it was good so not their fault. Imperceptable slacking off.

Williams began the big nosedive once they ditched Massa and went with the clueless kids.

Sorry but thats nonsense.

Engineers design the cars, everything is data driven.

The driver then works with the team to fine tune the balance within the working window of the car.
