Don't Red Bull own the track they are currently racing on? What's the difference? It's not like Ferrari are out testing the F1 cars at Mugello all the time as testing with the current cars is strictly limited.

Does Mugello run clockwise or anti-clockwise?

Just looking at the circuit in Google Maps and I think it must be clockwise?

Anyone?
Clockwise

I thought Fiorano was Ferraris test track ?
Road car - the yellow ones - fiorano
Race cars - the red ones - mugello
Not really. The restrictions on testing means that they don't test the F1 cars at either Fiorano or Mugello these days.

Mugello is just a track that Ferrari happen to own. These was an official F1 test there back in 2012 but these days the only time F1 cars run there is at Corse Client events and those cars will be several years old.

From memory, Ferrari bought the circuit in the 90s when the owner got into financial difficulties.

Imagine if back in 2017 Liberty Media had said that their plan to improve F1 was that for 2020 they would drop Monaco and most of the flyaway races, shorten the season and focus it in the traditional European heartland, adding tracks such as Mugello and Portimao ? I think many fans would have responded positively to such a plan.

I guess the corners may be a bit fast, leading to an aero dominated track where it's hard to pass. But it's a cool track, lots of elevation, will be really interesting to see F1 arrive there.

Having watched the first race in Austria I didn't think it lacked that much from a viewers perspective by not having a crowd. I barely noticed that there wasn't actually anyone there.

It makes me wonder how much more diverse the tracks could be if they didn't need to worry about finding somewhere that could accommodate tens (or hundreds) of thousands of spectators and all the parking / food / event stuff that goes with it. As I understand most of the team money comes from the TV money anyway and its only the circuits that really benefit from the spectators, and then for the most part they don't make a lot from that anyhow.
Ahem - ever thought that it is the spectators who benefit most from that status? They also add immeasurably to the look and feel of a race , which is why locations such as Silverstone, Monza and Interlagos host such atmospheric races. Can you imagine the difference at Zandvoort next year if a couple of hundred thousand orange clad Verstappen supporters were not present ?

Grands Prix aren't a made for TV special, but events which attract massive national and international interest . I've attended many GPs over the last 5 decades and so far as I'm concerned , siting on your arse watching telly is a very pale imitation of the real thing, especially in Italy .

Never said it was a test track. Its common knowledge they cant test unless at official test events. Its which ferrari brand owns the track. Scuderia ferrari s.p.a or Ferrari s.p.a

And which one do you think owns the circuit?

So Ferrari owns the track....

And its Ferraris 1000th Grand Prix...

I reckon those "Maldonado Special" Pirelli's will be making a re-appearance.

Could they ever race at Donnington again? What improvements would be needed?

Pit complex would need to be built.

I think the current lap is too short as well for F1. I'm fairly sure that was the reason for the track being obliterated and the new layout proposed in '07 or '08.

Yes, it would need a complete reconstruction. Don't think that the pitlane would even be long enough these days. And Silverstone exists.

Yes, and from what I remember from 1993 it's too damn cold!
