Istanbul Park and the Bahrain outer track should be fun.

Now to wait and see if Abu Dhabi are going to allow spectators, he says hopefully, while clutching his order for tickets placed back in January...

Does it really matter though? Mercedes will win and Ferrari will place horribly behind the rest of the pack. Current F1 just isn't an enjoyable product. Hearing Grodon Murray talk about F1 car development and his drivers just reminded me of exactly how great F1 racing was. Made me a bit sad

A great achievement to put together a 14-venue, 17-race calendar under the circumstances. Wonder if Seb will manage a collision with his team-mate at Istanbul for old-times' sake?

And I think a real challenge for the drivers this year - starting the year without knowing how many races they'd have and where, being cooped up, triple-headers, racing at unfamiliar circuits and at unfamiliar times of year.

At least the drivers get a decent wage for the inconvenience and a bit of a chance to rest in between races, the mechanics are the real unsung heroes who are away from their families for months at a time with zero time off.

Ferrari tested their 2018 car at Mugello a few weeks ago, to blow away the lockdown cobwebs. I don't think they can run F1 cars at Fiorano anymore. Even Maranello isn't immune from noise complaints from local residents.
They can and they do, when allowed. There are no noise restrictions, no one in town even dreams about complaining.
I should think nearly 100% of the residents rely either directly or indirectly on Ferrari for their livelihoods don't they?

Very good point, no private jets back to Monaco between races for them.

Or even the same quality of hotel. I'd imagine this year has easily been the toughest for the crews, they don't even get the same 'perks' of the travel etc. they'd normally get as they're all in hotel rooms or at the track 24/7.

Not even Ferrari in its own back yard is immune to the creeping threat of noise complaints. You’d think that around its home, where on the face of it the cult of Ferrari seems almost a religion, the company would be immune – but that’s not the case. When we drive the circuit in 488s, we’re required to lift from the throttle after the last corner to keep the company out of hot water with the local residents and authorities.

Great track but bumpy as hell now.
Portimao is going to be resurfaced this summer in advance of the race.

Let's hope they do a better job than Silverstone a few years ago!

Indeed, MotoGP is going there also now.

They have it easy compared to guys like me running Historic racecars. No overnight curfews or 20 blokes to do one mans job in my game. wink

Definitely a big hats off to everyone involved in F1, for the huge effort in getting a season off this year, when almost no other international ‘touring’ sport has taken place.

The high concentration of races and new requirements means that many people have and will spend long times away from home. That there’s been only one ‘incident’ is a tribute to the professionalism of all involved in the sport.

Let’s also not forget about Project Pitlane, when at the height of the crisis back in March many F1 people turned their attention from making fast cars tto helping out with the crisis.

F1 should not be going to Turkey. The Turkish economy is on the brink of collapse; Erdogan seems hell bent on trying to start a war with Greece; Turkey is at risk of being placed on the UK quarantine list as there has been a recent spike in Covid-19 cases.

Politics has never stopped F1 from going somewhere.

Regarding Covid quarantine areas, last week they raced in Spain, and have now travelled through France to Belgium, all of which are already on the UK quarantine list. As long as they can move from country to country without quarantine they'll keep going. They just won't come back to the UK in between unless it's absolutely unavoidable.

F1 teams will likely receive dispensation to return without quarantine as they did for the Spanish GP. They’re a pretty self contained group with very few people from outside the entourage allowed into the paddock.

Has it been confirmed Bahrain will be on two different layouts?

Before they travelled to Oz I was against it. However F1 is now setting an example to the world of how international sport can operate in Covid safety.

As for the questionable actions of the host nation? Seriously? This is F1 we’re talking about. If it was 1938 they would happily race in Germany with the swastika being displayed. Again.

This - despite the FIA / F1 producing a "charter" by which all countries they race in should allow respect, freedom of speech etc etc

Perhaps the Paddock should take a knee for female/religious/speech/human rights in some of those middle east countries + turkey also now!

Shaking hands with a guy who murders anyone, often by poisoning, who steps out of line must be fun.
