I said Hamilton is the most popular driver in the world. I didn't state 'amongst F1 fans' - or any other particular demographic.
He might be the most well known driver, but that doesn't equal the most popular.vdn said:
Half of those accounts might well be a couple of posters here on PH, secretly seething, and waiting on every post LH makes, guns at the ready
Must be quite a sad life being so consumed by another human being that you're just waiting for a chance to repeat your hate for them ad nauseam. Something not quite right indeed.

Anyone still doubting his GOAT status?
Has to be one of the best drives of his career this weekend?
I had a feeling leaving Silverstone after watching the two GP2 races in 2006 that we had the potential best-ever on our hands.Has to be one of the best drives of his career this weekend?
I have seen little to sway me from that view since then.

Undoubted, cast-iron GOAT for that performance. It’s a long time since I remember a drive like that from anyone, very little luck and a boatload of skill, to overtake everyone on the track for the win. Has to be one of the best drives of his career this weekend?
Of the 101 wins, that must be in the top handful. Awesome drive

He has to be one of the most focussed sportsmen of them all, to come through so much adversity over the weekend and produce a performance like that is remarkable, most would be crushed by the setbacks. Tiger Woods comeback at The Masters confirmed his status in my mind as somebody who operates at another level, Hamilton at Interlagos ranks alongside any sporting achievement I have witnessed. His ability and skill is not what sets him apart, though he’s as good as anyone, it’s his mindset, an awesome individual.
If we allow a little bit of poetic licence - we add Saturdays sprint race combined with yesterdays full GP, can anyone think of a race where the driver on the top spot at the finish started last, overtook every car on track, some twice? This having served two penalties, a five place & a twenty place drop, no concurrent sentence applied? Absolutely astounding. I struggle to think of anything that comes close to that.

Nobody has won a race from last on the grid. In fact, technically, Hamilton didn't either because he only started last for the sprint race. He started the actual race from 10th.The lowest position someone has won from is second-from-last - John Watson started the 1983 Long Beach GP from 22nd on the grid and won.
Closest feat to Sunday in modern times was probably Canada 2011, when Jenson Button was last after 37 laps and came through to win. In mitigation, he had a lot of help from weather and safety cars, which Hamilton didn't.

Hamilton like that is operating at a level I’ve only seen the following operate at:
Phelps
Brady
The Fed
Rafa
Dan Carter
Bolt
In my head that’s as elite company for a sportsman, as it gets.
Tiger Woods tops that list Phelps
