Lewis is an absolute legend: to lose a race like that & still maintain his equilibrium, absolute class. He's gone so far up in my estimation, the guy is a true champion.

I appreciated his racing today and good spirit at the end. What a season and 2 great drivers.

Said it in the race thread, but will probably get lost in the arguing.

But fair play to Lewis. He won't be happy but remained dignified in the interview with Jenson and stayed on the podium.

One driver was always going to leave Abu Dhabi disappointed.

Congrats to Lewis and Merc for almost winning despite the FIA bias against them.

At the back of their minds now is the fact that the drivers title has been heavily meddled with, and thus it's even further devalued.

That was very gracious today by Lewis to acknowledge Max and Red Bull. He certainly went up in my estimation.

Any mention of Lewis had to be dragged out of Verstappen and Horner.

i'm not the greatest Lewis fan tbh - but i thought he was gracious and classy today! credit where credit due.....

dunno why , i get the feeling lewis wont be back next year (just catching up on delay) - i'm probably just reading a lot into his disappointment.....

Any rule experts here- It seems completely unfair but is that the rule? All cars can come up and close the gap? And was it a clear safety car intervention?

This debate is going on the race thread right now.

I'm no expert, but that's always the consequence of a safety car vs VSC, & yes it most definitely was a case where a safety car was appropriate. Neither of those would be the basis of any Mercedes appeal, I suggest.

Im not a LH fan but he was robbed today. Best decision now would be to award the Championship to both drivers. It’s the only fair way out.

What a championship Lewis has given us this year. He was all but written off before Brazil given the points deficit. In the end he was 1 lap away from greatness.

Thank you Lewis and Max for an outstanding year full of action, drama and controversy (that hasn't ended yet)

Can my BPM take another year of this biggrin

I think they’d rather take the flak under the ‘any publicity is good publicity’ rather than make a historic fudge like that.

"once the last lapped car has passed the leader the safety car will return to the pits at the end of the following lap"

NOT let the cars between 1st and 2nd place pass then dive into the pits on the same lap

Mercedes should pull out and take their engines supplied for other teams with them as the sport is rigged

Indeed a view that the Mercedes board might well take. You don't spend 100s of Millions of $ to compete in WWE on wheels.

That's going to hurt, in spite of his classy conduct.

He had a perfect start and was comfortably the fastest thing out there, and even dropped Max when he was on the slower tyre.

With that in mind, Max had two chances to win - a wild lunge (which we saw on lap 1), or some kind of incident.

I don't think anything could have mentally prepared him for that finish.

While I'm keen on turning F1 into something more competitive and more of a spectacle, it sucks to have a title decided this way.
