Behind a pay wall unfortunately. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/formula-1/2022/06/23/s...
It's really sad how Stewart has always had such an issue with Hamilton. JYS was a bit of a hero figure to me a long time ago, these days I find him more and more embarrassing and disappointing.
He's entitled to an opinion, but I definitely don't agree with it and, moreover, it's somewhat undignified to be quite so openly critical of a current driver, let alone one of LH's stature.

The way he inserts his own name amongst the greats is wince-inducing too. I'm not saying he doesn't belong there, he probably does, but it just really lacking in class to say it.

He also says -

"I’m sure he’ll be very successful because he’s been earning a huge amount of money — rightfully so because he’s been the best of his time. Lewis is in that group of the Ayrton Sennas and the Alain Prosts — or even the Jackie Stewarts maybe."

So it’s not all bad mouthing from JYS. It’s simply selective quoting for click bait.

I think it might be an older phrase that JS has used, as overall he says Lewis is the best of an era. So it might be a generational miscom'

That’s sounds more like it. A bit tongue in cheek.

Remind me why Twitter is toxic again.

"and the rag trade would be absolutely suitable for him" doesn't come across well.

Original interview here - the LH bit is from about 18 mins in.

It sounds a little uncomfortable to me. Can't quite put a finger on it.

Taken in its entirety it seems perfectly reasonable

But Stewart, 83, thinks the time is right for Hamilton to retire now, especially given his business interests: "It’s time for him to resign," he said. "He’s got music, he’s got culture, he loves clothing and the rag trade would be absolutely suitable for him,"

It's quite weird. Even the word 'resign' is the wrong one, he presumably means 'retire'. Whatever, it's nothing whatsoever to do with Stewart and comes across as rather condescending.

Yes its the wrong terminology, but hes merely giving his opinion, after being asked it by a journalist

I don't think anyone has ever mentioned Jackie Stewart in the same breath as Senna or Prost, never mind Hamilton.

Different (more dangerous) era. He's still a 3x WDC and 2x runner up. I'd class him with any other multiple WDC.

Storm in a teacup... JYS's main point seem to be that Hamilton should quit while he's ahead. It's a valid comment I think, Hamilton has achieved everything an F1 driver could ever aspire to and then some.

It is just someone's opinion and it is not some extreme view. With some of JYS flare!

I'm going to suggest that I would not be taking advice on going in to the fashion business from this man:

Although I raised this issue, and am disappointed by this and some other comments, I absolutely would and always do include him at the very top. It's hard to think of a driver with more natural talent. He won 3 world championships for Ken Tyrrell, ie no Ferrari, no Lotus, Brabham, McLaren etc, and not much was won for Ken Tyrrell before or since.
