If George Russel (the experienced F1 driver) had got to within a mechanical failure in the last race of winning the title this year and in doing so ended up above Lewis Hamilton in the final standings...
Something tells me a lot of posters would be claiming he had "destroyed" his teammate
Perhaps. But I rather think Hamilton would have taken it in better grace than Alonso did, and also wouldn't still be making bitter snarky comments about it a decade and a half later.Something tells me a lot of posters would be claiming he had "destroyed" his teammate

The fact that some people here are so resentful about his comments may clearly indicate that there is some true to them though.
Resentful? Nope, I think most people are just laughing at Alonso for being such a cocksocket StRemy said:
Yep, he seems to have struck a chord. Still nobody denies that LH is a great driver, only that he is not as good in certain circunstances (when he is driving in the midfield).
Hamilton took responsibility and apologised. What more do you want?It was an incredibly rare error of judgement from Hamilton, and he held up his hand to it.

Martin Brundle on this:'Fernando's radio comments, albeit fuelled by anger and adrenaline, about Lewis only being able to win from the front were in my opinion wholly inaccurate and unfair. Lewis is one of the fairest and cleanest drivers in the history of F1, he hasn't needed to resort to too many professional fouls given his relentless speed, and just cast your mind back to Brazil last year to remember how he can scythe through the field. Twice.'

Exactly. And unlike Schumacher, Vettel, and Senna, he has never resorted to dirty driving and downright cheating (and in Schumacher's case, trying to kill another driver). And, in the Ferrari drivers cases, the team (including the #2 driver) being totally focussed on getting them the WDC.'Fernando's radio comments, albeit fuelled by anger and adrenaline, about Lewis only being able to win from the front were in my opinion wholly inaccurate and unfair. It beggar's belief how people can hold Hamilton in such low regard.

Doesn’t mean he is not a great driver, but that seems to be one of his weaknesses.

Thing is in the case of LH that kind of errors are not rare. He has crashed into Rosberg, Albon (twice!), MV, KM, FA…so what the Spaniard said in the heat of the moment can be quite accurate indeed.

Across a very long career, Hamilton has made remarkably few errors.Doesn’t mean he is not a great driver, but that seems to be one of his weaknesses.
Your opinion on Hamilton is well-known here and long founded, despite your recent amusing attempt to pass yourself off as a fan.
