I’m grumpy not about the lack of Murray, but the false suspense that Croft continually introduces ([car is 0.8 second behind entering long straight] ‘IS HE CLOSE ENOUGH TO PASS THIS TIME?’). He either lacks a fundamental understanding of motorsport, or is ignoring it and sensationalising the action, which is insulting to viewers who can see what is happening on the screen in front of them.

Let’s be honest: most of this thread is just irrational grumping because Murray Walker isn’t somehow magically still doing it.
No, it's about what a terrible job david croft does. Clues in the title.

Jenson button is also amping up the ‘lads on tour vibe’. It’s like the audio version of 5 mid-30s men roaming a Saturday night provisional town centre in brown tan shoes, weirdly washed/distressed bootcut jeans, belt, and dark coloured shirt with garish pattern enclosing substantial belly.

He's certainly hoovering up the pies this year.
He does seem to spend a lot of time in FPs talking about what he had for dinner the night before!

No, it’s not at all irrational. It’s because Croft is st.

There’s been a thread like this for every single presenter that’s not Murray Walker over the years.

It’s pretty clear that most people either don’t understand the uproar of commentary, or would just prefer there was none. Which is fine. It’s just tedious to read the same things year after year

(‘Stop the cock’?? Was that what the James Allen thread was called?)

You're choosing to read a thread about Croft being terrible.

Oh sorry, I hadn’t realised this thread was only accepting criticism.

Bit of a lazy retort though, eh? Maybe address my point that ever commentator gets the same treatment instead of trying to police your echo chamber?

I was attempting to offer an alternate view which is that he’s fine, and objectively no worse than all the others that have been moaned about over the years.

No you made a daft/judgemental assertion about the motives of people criticising him, you're welcome to enjoy what he does, takes all types.

Would you like Murray Walker back in the role?

I was one of those calling for Murray's retirement in the last couple of years of his tenure, but he's probably currently capable of doing a better job than croft.

I agree, and that does not reflect well on Croft, given that Murray is dead.

Heard during quali today: "It's like a race, but instead of racing each other, they're racing against the clock!" - nice one Crofty, you have grasped the concept of qualifying.

I think the big issue is more than the man. IN the past you had Murray, James or whoever simply for either 1 half hour to hour highlights show or the whole race after a few years, you did not have liver coverage of every single second on track.

I doubt anybody with even the most enthusiastic approach to the business that is now F1, could get excited for every session. It is all so so samey.

I have some sympathy for Croft as races now follow a fairly samey pattern I gather, lots of saving, some strategy and then a dash for cash in the last 20 or so laps when it all unwinds. That is tame, fairly hard to make interesting initially and exciting at the end.

My beef with Croft is the shouting, nothing more, the rest of it is just him trying to justify his existence with pointless stats, endless drivel, it is no worse than another other commentator, but his shouting IS worse.

My other beef is I believe he thinks he is special, something a proper commentator like Murray, Barry Davies, Coleman did not, they were doing a job, I think Croft believes he is a personality.

He is not he is a fat, over indulged, overpaid dosser who shouts too much and somehow manages to convince dunderhead producers and directors that he is good enough. I don't know how, but you have to respect the man for keeping at it for so long. As regards the other guys who have tried, I never understood the hatred for Legard he was nothing special but nowhere hear as bad as people say compared to this cretin, James Allen got better with time, but also shouted far too much embarrassingly as did Edwards at the end of his tenure, something I believe they are TOLD to do.
