Most people are fine with him, except perhaps, a tiny minority of people, on a little backwater forum, about cars
If that's really the case, F1 really has gone over primarily to the 'Drive to Survive' crowd. So I hope you're not right about that.
So I'm 'Drive to Survive' crowd because he doesn't bother me?

He's so terrible that it's really hard to understand how he couldn't bother someone. However, his lack of knowledge of the basics makes me think that surely most of the more clued-up listeners will sooner or later get fed-up, never mind the yelling as well.

What did you think of him not knowing what engine braking was?

Some people aren't bothered about Paul Di Resta, now that is strange.

Well, I don't know. I wouldn't say I am an obsessive or particularly mechanically minded person, but Croft's mistakes are often so fundamental that I find it unacceptable.

Well we certainly agree there.

The weird "impression" he did of the Ferrari mechanic over the radio was odd and uncalled for, hopefully someone will have a quiet word in his ear to pack that sort of thing in.
Odd is one way to describe it, xenophobic is another

He doesn't bother me, but he bothers you, that's life.

How was it "easier"? I can accept different, but Murray had far less access to multiple TV feeds, & much less data about lap times, sectors, etc. He kept copious notes, was on first name terms with all of the pitlane & could call on them to help him out, but he was part of a much smaller team with much less support than Croft has. Conversely, that data takes a good level of understanding to interpret what is going on, these days - I suspect Murray would have been right on top of that, whereas Croft wouldn't recognise his own 4rse with a label on it...
Well I don't know what use copious notes are during a live race.
I presume when Grosjean crashed in a fireball he could have told us about his new pet labrador called smokey.
But its not about Murray here so I will stop now.
They say people lose their memory over a certain age so that's why you may have forgotten that it was James Allen who introduced the concept of a pet labrador tied to a driver's helmet to illustrate the concept of G-force to the listener. Murray would have been far more considered in his approach, using his copious notes to say something sensible: witness his delicate handling of the live coverage of Ayrton Senna's crash at Imola.

I think it was more a product of his verbal diarrhoea and not knowing when to stop talking. I think even he realised it and probably inwardly cringed afterwards.

You really think he doesn't know what engine braking is?

He prompts others so they can explain for the audience.

Some people on here obviously hate him but to claim he's ignorant and unknowledgeable is laughable.

Brundle's response about engine braking was cut from the highlights, so it's a bit pointless if he was prompting for the audience laugh

He gets too many things completely wrong to have any knowledge

Did Croft just genuinely ask why Mick took his hands off the wheel during his crash?!

Two Spanish commentators, they didn’t shout once, when things get interesting the just talk faster, even when Alonso was getting aggressive

I thought Croft was typically appalling today, failing to grasp that Hamilton had been stuffed by not pitting and his 5th on the road was a false position. I thought JB was good though.

I dunno, I found after micks horrible looking crash yesterday, during that disturbing hollow feeling period while you wait for might be really bad news, his trademark dribble of inane trite to be particularly unwelcome.

His screaming towards the end of the race when there was no chance of an overtake between 1st and 2nd was appalling and detracted from the genuine overtaking opportunities. He just never knows when to shut up and stop screaming down the Mike.

Croft & JB were a pretty awful pairing today.

For someone who’s word is their tool its surprising Croft cannot string a coherent sentence together, it’s like English is his second language. He also seems to have no basic knowledge or understanding of how the cars work or how the drivers drive them. I cannot recall ever being genuinely interested or educated by a question he has asked or an anecdote he’s given. I know they have to cater for the F1 newcomer but he is dumbing it down too far.

As the poster said above JB was boring today. Every overtake was a ‘great move’ despite it being yet another drs assisted pass along the main straight. When he was driving I thought he was quite witty and a bit cheeky, maybe Sky have sucked it out of him.

Sky are lucky they have Brundle and Davidson. The rest of the team are weak.

I hate to break the bad news to everyone on this thread but he's been there over ten years now. I'm starting to get the feeling he's not going anywhere.
