Ben Edwars says it too, but not nearly as annoyingly.

The only one that ever pissed me off was Martin Brundle's "Look, but never stare" throughout 2011.
And brundles 'it's what I call an arrive and drive corner'

Though not as bad as crofts 'is he going to get past' long after the point everyone else knows it isn't going to happen.

Mind you, he is nowhere near as annoying as Legard was.

Well, when you use a relative scale rather than an absolute scale, it has some legitimacy.

the Celsius scale is relative but temperature is an absolute quantity.

Oh, I know.

But 'hot' is not really a measure and using a relative scale doesn't really help.

my little sister when we were kids complained to our dad that the radiator in her bedroom went to 5 and mine went to 7. She thought that meant hers didn't go as hot.

Probably still make a better f1 commentator than crofty though

When Vettel got back into the pits and threw out a silver object from the cockpit in frustration, Crofty stated that he had thrown out a tape measure!

Surely it was the seatbelt centre that he had just undone?

Worse was the fact that Brundle seemed to agree with the tape measure statement!

The shot only showed the tape measure (yes - a Stanley-type polished metal tape measure with a yellow lable on it) clattering down the nose and landing on the floor. Whether it was in the cockpit, or one of the pit crew put it on the car & Vettel knocked it off in either disgust or by accident, wasn't clear.

Yep, that's what I thought. The shot showed him being wheeled back in to the garage and throwing out the buckle.

ETA: I've deleted the show now so cannot go back for a screen shot.

I could be wrong - does the QR buckle come loose completely then? I assumed they were retained by at least one of the harness straps. If so, I stand corrected. Sorry. Definitely looked like a Stanley tape measure!

It comes off completely. Watch when the drivers come in after the race. They take off the steering wheel and place it on the car. Then they place a circular object next to it. That's the buckle. When they get out, they put the wheel back on and drop the buckle into the car.

No problem, I'm not sure that a Stanley tape measure is long enough to measure Vettels frustration at the moment!

Dropping just in front of the front left wheel? I thought it looked like a tape measure as well.

Meh. Having put up with James Allen, Jonathan Legard, and (sorry) Murray Walker as he started to lose it, I think David Croft has been better than most.

There are always those who will never be happy with what they have, but honestly I find 'Crofty' perfectly adequate.

It is a well know fact that Seb carries a tape measure in the car to measure how far off pole he ends up. His frustration is that Stanley don't make one long enough!
