I like Crofty ??, I like how he winds up the crowd here even more.
Long may he continue
I get the impression that you are in a minority, I’ll continue to think he is a babbling idiot Long may he continue
Well I've worked for McLaren, Stewart Racing/jaguar, and Pi Research in the past.
Feel free to tell me your expertise

He was bad today. Getting muddled all the time trying to spin something into his usual ‘funny’ line about it.
The pair of them were not strong today. In fact the entire team don’t offer much. All of them offering nothing insightful. As a knowledgeable fan, I’m finding the pre show quite tedious now.
Martin was at Le Mans supporting his son. Made brief appearance on the commentary as a guest. Ant Davidson doing stints of commentary also. Him and Martin together would be decent.
Totally agree. Very difficult to find any positives to say about the whole coverage. DeResta's "shh" instead of "s" in every sentence is so grating then Crofty with his mistakes and screaming aboutanovertae when none is on hurts my ears.He had Lewis "overtaking" for about 5 laps when it was obvious to any cretin that he was too far back. The pair of them were not strong today. When Brundle is absent it is so appalling.

The coverage from Sky has I think been the worst for some time. And that is saying something. They seem to be going backwards. Croft in particular is definitely getting worse. Had they all been partying during the weekend?
It's not so much worse, more 'different'.When they started, their audience was almost exclusively long-term fans and followers of F1, people who knew about the sport. A lot of their supplementary programming catered for this with some excellent content on the sport's history and some of the more nurdy technical stuff.
Over the past couple of years, they've increased their accessibility and this, and thanks to Netflix / DTS, have attracted a sizeable, new audience who are less interested in the history and other aspects previously catered for. This isn't just a UK thing, the Sky F1 content we see here is broadcast in many other countries around the world.
They therefore have to provide a balanced approach catering for the long-term knowledgeable fans and the new ones. It's a difficult balance to strike.
David Croft appears to fulfil his brief well. Whether you like him or not is just subjective. As an example.....

Croft reminds me of the likes of Chris Moyles, Chris Evans and Nicky Campbell
Three of the most successful broadcasters of their type, all still in gainful and popular employment. They must be doing something right!StevieBee said:

They must be doing something right! His style might be similar to Moyles, Evans & Campbell: the difference is they're not handling a fast moving sport; if Croft was commentating on "It's a Knockout!" then he'd be fine, I suspect. They're successful because they use their particular style appropriately: the problem with Croft is that he doesn't. When Evans tried Top Gear, his style failed miserably, even though he's a big car fan. F1 presenting is no place for Crofts Gonzo journalism style, in my view.

Also, unlike virtually every other motorsport commentator, he doesn’t come across as knowledgeable or passionate at all about motorsport outside of F1. He just does this as a job. Wish he’d stayed in darts.
Sky’s Baku coverage bereft of the legitimacy that Davidson and Brundle provide was utterly terrible.

I was watching some old clips with Crofty's commentary on them from when he first started doing F1 a few weeks ago and the contrast to how less shouty and idiotic then to now was stark! He was still poorly informed and annoying but the volume differential and verocity of the delivery were much more restrained.

Yep, when he used to do the free practice session years ago on the radio I remember liking him. Perhaps he's encouraged to pull his clueless screaming routine by Sky?Adrian W said:

How does that prove any expertise regarding Formula one? What did you do for those businesses? Well I've worked for McLaren, Stewart Racing/jaguar, and Pi Research in the past.

Croft screaming at the end of Qualy three yesterday was an assault on the ears, he had nothing to say so just dreamed and shouted

What I worked on I can't say, due to NDAs, beyond saying it was mostly involved in simulation, simulation algorithms, and data analysis.
So, you're right, absolutely no expertise in F1 there.
Still waiting to hear your expertise.
This thread is priceless

It's hardly necessary to have worked within F1 to understand that Croft is unfit for purpose. What I worked on I can't say, due to NDAs, beyond saying it was mostly involved in simulation, simulation algorithms, and data analysis.
