As you can see from last night's exchange, you won't get anywhere with logic.
If he annoys you that much then you do have choices
Go on, you've got my attention, please tell me about these legal choices that I can have only using my TV
Why limit yourself to only using the TV?
I'm not sure if you're on some kind of wind-up, or what you're trying to do here. But would you be okay with, for example, having to provide your own soundtrack to your favourite film because when Sky showed it the Benny Hill music was what they provided?

That's how it feels for a lot of us dealing with Croft. It's unacceptable.

That is irrelevant, by saying that you have lost the argument, there are loads of ways of doing it, from illegal streams to actually attending the race, but not on a TV

Why limit yourself to only using the TV?

Well do something about it if it bothers you that much.

How is that losing the argument?

I notice you haven't commented on the person who said the listen to the radio while watching Sky?

It's a convoluted process, and I shouldn't have to do it.

Doesn't seem that tricky and probably worth it if the Sky commentary bothers you that much.

He doesn't like Sky's commentary, so I suggested he try a different commentary, one that someone else has said that they use and they find it works well.

In what way is this trolling or on a wind up?

I find it hard to believe that with all of the action that we enjoy in a typical F1 race, the voice or presenting style of the commentator is enough to put people off. I've never understood the Crofty hate but then again I watch the races because I like racing. Very small thing to get wound up about but seeing as this thread is as long as it is, I must be in the minority.

I try to watch it using the home cinema, the change of levels when Croft starts shouting makes it impossible, we end up watching with the sound right down,

The issue is that I would hope we all watch other sports and motorsports, so we get used to a style that is normal per se.

And those older among us can remember Murray, James Allen, etc etc, so hark back to that style and want it still. People hated them too, but the vitriol for Croft is very clear and more common.

It seems that the current trend for motorsport commentary is to shout more as that apparently transmits excitement, I see it all the time even from very experienced commentators, Addison has started doing it in GTWC and British GT, and it just sounds false and wrong, but is clearly scripted and done for effect. This comes from apparently talented producers who clearly think this is what is needed, it is not, I don't get it, never have but it is obviously asked for.

Croft believes his own hype, seems to think he is the voice of F1, and seems to spend all his time collecting utterly pointless stats that nobody but him care about.

I personally believe most of the team involved can't stand the man, and simply put up with him, but he is clearly being asked to do a job, to hype it up and told to shout and be all excitable!

The point is, that the race should be enough these are moving pictures, words do not not to be said all the damn time.

I use BBC Radio 5 because I stream from outside of the country I am in, as the area that I live in only allow their own internet and tv to be purchased (an ongoing legal battle), and their stty TV service does not provide F1. BBC 5 is not ideal, and although the commentary is more to my taste, the out-of-sync sound for the streamed tv driver inputs does irritate me - but it is something I am forced to put up with due to my circumstances.

BBC 5 is comfortable to let me generate my own levels of excitement, despair, shock, etc, on the whole. The commentators "comment" (strangely enough) on the proceedings and are generally happy enough to allow me to draw my own conclusions and reaction to them.

If there is something remarkable happening in the proceedings, there is an understandable reaction from everyone (I guess), as that is somewhat normal and not scripted.

I did hope they were looking for a "Croft" replacement when I spotted that on the F1 site in July 2021 ( Page 45 of this thread )

He’s done it before and he’s dead, but he’d be an improvement.
