Granted. But he couldn't identify George instead of Lewis. That is basic.

Then coming out with the inters suggestion at the end...

I was a supporter of him against the detractors, but I'm beginning to see their point.
Quite a few howlers but beaten into first place by his suggestion of pitting for Inters. They might last half a lap on a dry track to say nothing of the pit stop time penalty.
Was he on the Wacky Backy today

Agreed. I'm not usually too bothered by his commentary but today was just fking awful. One obvious mistake after another and the inters nonsense really was the cherry on the st-flavoured cake. I can live with the occasional slip of the tongue, today just seemed like he'd started on his summer holiday beers a bit early.

I'm not one of his big detractors, and I know he's there to 'hype the race', but it was already a good race and to suggest that, with two laps to go, someone could pit for Inters when the rain was so slight we couldn't even see it on screen, was madness.

Lando had space to pit, but it would have to have been an utter surprise deluge like Russia for it to make any sense whatsoever.

Crazy and baffling.

It’s as imbecilic as saying it might be worth pitting on lap 1 just in case there’s a safety car.

May as well not start the race, so you don't get an engine or gearbox penalty next time round.

I wasn't able to watch live yesterday, so caught up with the highlights on Channel Four. What a lovely experience it is to watch the race without Croft. The Channel Four commentator can be a bit too shouty for my liking, but it is only occasional, and on the whole, he is just infinitely better.

I just don't understand how Croft keeps the job. confused

He probably has a contract that is watertight

And maybe also is working to something SKY want rather than doing all this by himself

For some reason a lot of sports tv production commentaries seem to think shouting and falsely inflating voices etc makes things more exciting. Addison has started doing it a lot on GTWC and it just seems silly, it is clearly being done for a reason.

Can I put a non Crofty whinge in here?

Not sure what's going on with Sky Planner now but I had to watch the race several hours late yesterday, so relied on my series link recording. They seem to have split the weekend coverage out into about a dozen little shows clogging up the planner, Ted's Notebook, Pre-Race Gumpf, Grid Walk, etc - all now separate listings on my planner. It took ages to find the race, and amongst flicking through all of the little boxes I started coming across highlights clips from the race, one of them captioned "HOW VERSTAPPEN WINS THE HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX". WTAF. Thanks Sky, wkers.

I had a similar experience, Sky seem to have had a bit of a mare this weekend - I record and watch Shy UHD by preference, but I have to record Sky HD and C4 HD as well for backup as the UHD planner entries or Series Links aren't always reliable, so yesterday I, as you, had a planner full of F1 programme icons.

Sky or ITV, or whoever is responsible stuffed up the BTCC Series Links too so I lost that completely yesterday, let alone the ITV4, or sometimes ITV1 scheduling!

My vote would be to someone like Aidan Millward (from YouTube)
Rosberg is still bitter about being beaten by Hamilton (it seeps out on occasion) so would be biased (IMO)

Please not Millward, he has the most droning, dull voice, and tries to include awful infantile humor in otherwise very interesting posts, i would actually watch his posts if it not for his woeful diatribe quite honestly, his voice utterly ruins them. Damn shame as his ideas are very good, but I have tried and his voice is ten times worse than Crofts and that is saying something, plus we all know in reality that Croft is bad but his producers are the real issue there.

BBC used a commentator I'd not heard before for the Hungarian race - Harry Benjamin. He made a couple of errors and driver misidentifications, but overall was very calm and never got overexcited. I think I even preferred him to the usual guy they have.

I'm not convinced, it always seems that their salaries are paid by Toca, they never say anything controversial or against the organisers whatever happens, a driver can smash into another car and Harvey just about mentions the little bump.

A bit like when F1s race director subverted the rules to bung the championship to his fav driver last last year and the combined masses of everyone at sky just kind of said it was ok?

Thoroughly enjoyed not listening to the shrieking moronic oaf over the summer break.

The whole sky lineup his weekend apart from Davidson are the most vacuous, uniformed, banal and dire group ever to present F1. They literally add nothing to the coverage.
