One does actually sometimes feel quite sorry for MV, given his three main influencers.

That said, his driving this year has improved considerably compared to years past; maybe after eight seasons, and with a very competitive car, he’s finally growing up on the track.
Agreed, he's been much better this season. He's not had to deal with Lewis Hamilton though.
Yes, it's easy to look good when you've got the best car and realistically your team-mate isn't good enough to challenge you across a whole season - mind you, arguably Lewis was in a similar situation at Mercedes for quite a few years!

But I do think Verstappen appears to have been more controlled this season with less of the wild stuff that was too often on in display in years gone by. When he and Leclerc were fighting wheel to wheel earlier this season it was good, clean, racing rather than the bumper cars we've seen him resort to in the past - hopefully that will continue if and when he faces a more sustained challenge in the future.

I would feel bad for Ted, but when he has about as much appeal as a crusty dog turd then it does get difficult. Never liked him when he first started, how he's lasted so long is beyond me - kept out of sight and heard from sparingly nowadays thankfully.

I will always respect Ted and Johnny for not trying to brush the Abu Dhabi scandal under the carpet. The others, notably Brundle and Hill, badly let themselves down.

I was quite shocked by Hill, but particularly Brundle. They really pushed the boundaries of credible professional commentary by ignoring the fiasco that had been witnessed.

Brundle commenting on Schumi deliberately colliding with Villeneuve in 1997, “That didn’t work Michael. You hit the wrong part of him, my friend. I don’t think that’ll cause Villeneuve a problem” (btw, it very nearly did cause a problem as it broke a mount and the wiring only just hung on...). Also Brundle wrote an article on Schumi a few years later basically stating that MS went beyond what was reasonably accepted sporting behavior in his quest to win.

Just recently someone posted that Brundle and the Verstappens were friends, so that will probably be why Martin is reluctant to query events that enabled Max to steal a WDC. I wonder why Hill was defending the manipulation as well?

"Badly let themselves down" is spot on!

To be fair whenever they cut to Ted, F1 nearly always decide to play in some team radio. It’s almost as if F1 are trolling them.

Exactly, he hasn't really had to fight that hard for a position this year and when he has it's against someone that dosn't put up much of a fight.
2021 was the first year that required him to demonstrate wheel to wheel with a comparable car since danny left the team and you can see what a horlicks he made of it. Before then he was in a kind of no man's land between the front and midfields and this year he's driving a car faster than the other 19. He's fast but far from the complete racer so many are desperate to paint him as.

It's not Red Bull that's toxic. There's a certain section of fans (including some Red Bull fans) that are toxic.
Horner, Marko, and Jos are pretty much the definition of toxic, I reckon.
I think one breeds the other. Even a silly little podcast I listen to self censors what they say about max which I presume is linked to the heightened social media abuse they talk of. Never really seen anything like it, 07-08 was bad but this is a new low, I guess in part due to tools available such as twitter but it's all quite specific.

I just watched the Vegas launch, after a few minutes I gave up, turn off the sound and it’s pointless, F1 bash ruined by the fat mouthy git.

Only into FP1 and the "statistics guru" is in overdrive! Why doesn't he just shut up for a few seconds as the meaningless stats add nothing but noise to watching.

Teds notebook seems to have turned into the ramblings of some F1 fan bloke, it’s a waste of airtime now

Yep, he used to have some insight but seems to have gone off the boil lately, I turned off the TV while he was rambling this evening.

Having given up my Sky Sports subscription early this year, I had the joys (no sarcasm) of listening to the 5Live crew (Nicholls, Jack Aitken and Andrew Benson) spending about 15 mins of FP2 talking about the beginnings of early "driver academies" with Elf in the 60s/70s, then onto other driver academy stuff - actually interesting and I learnt some new stuff about F1.

I think he has been like that for ages; it used to be a half informative program but as mentioned before it just seems like disjointed ramblings now.

Not entirely sure why he gets airtime now.

What was the last new idea from Sky in their broadcast? it's the same format with the same people as it was 10 years ago....

Never liked Sky coverage but both Crofty and Ted can go with nothing of value lost. I used to enjoy Notebook but now there's nothing to gain from it. Crofty I hate more by the day. Ruins every highlight and clip since that's the feed F1 use so you hear him everywhere.

Anybody else notice during qualifying this clown is talking about 'no better way to tell if rain is falling than a upturned palm'. While the pictures we are all watching clearly show somebody holding out the back of their hand..

IIRC it was the excellent rugby commentator, Bill McLaren who said, when asked what was the best advice he'd been given on commentating, that it was a lot of the time it was best to say nothing.
