Croft has to go

I can’t believe Croft just asked Brundle why the track is so difficult have talked about nothing else yesterday and today.
In fairness, it's probably for the benefit of all those just tuning in for the first time for qually. Not everyone watches every session. Lots of people will only tune in for the qually hour and the race, and not watch any of the other guff.CoolHands said:
I was watching this video of Aryton Senna opening lap https://youtu.be/jpX_7NomJ4k and noticed one of the comments: "Great! No music, no comments, no galvão bueno screaming! Just the engine roaring!"
I googled galvão bueno wondering what it was, turns out it is a Brazilian presenter much like Crofty, who shouts a lot! So we're not the only ones with a problem haha
Here in the Middle East we have a couple of antipodeans doing the commentary, and again it’s full of basic errors that have me shouting at the screen. The fact is, it’s a bloody difficult job to watch the race while constantly talking about it and trying to absorb information from multiple sources at the same time. The great MW was often full of crap too, even though we remember him with nostalgia. Crofty has the additional issue that F1 themselves use the Sky commentary for their highlights packages for a global audience, so there will likely be a number of notes to him as to what’s expected for a more casual audience - and the shouty probably adds to the ‘show’ in their minds.
Crofty has been wearing thin for a while now. No commentary duo will be perfect but Brundle/DC came bloody close.
Brundle also makes the odd mistake but you get the feeling with Brundle that it's because he was genuinely focussed on something else of importance, such as the sector times of a crucial in-lap etc. Croft makes mistakes because he's too busy on Twitter having "bantz with the lads".
I quite like Brundle-isms too, they made an inwards joke about it a few weeks ago - I think the wife of one of the other Sky crew members had made a comment about it so they were all playing Brundle-Bingo. I had a chuckle, it's just a comforting familiarity on a weekend.
I also like the way he says "Compound" for some reason.

I'm now losing patience with all the Brundlisms in the Sky commentary, too.
"Get out of the throttle..."
"Dropped it..."
"Tank slapper..."
"Mighty..."
Etc., etc.
Can't be just me driven mad by it.
Yep, add 'what I call an arrive and drive corner'"Get out of the throttle..."

Total bks.
Also, just watching the race (I was working 12hr days last three days)
Bloody hell Croft, it was Max, everyone else knew it was Max spinning, Open your eyes ! Oh and why have you suddenly become sponsored by Amazon web services ?
At least he wasn't shouting quite as much.
(I think he reads PH)

Yeah I thought the shouting was much more under control especially considering it could have been a race where it could be full on shout fest. Total bks.

I honestly think Martin has a the patience of a saint, there was an incident where Hamilton nearly rear ended Vettle due to a lock up. Martin explained he needed to get out of it or hit Vettle. Croft then 10 seconds later says something along the lines "well Lewis had to back out otherwise he would have driven into the side of Vettle" as if he had just worked it out all for himself.

The shouting was more under control - because there was actual intensity in the race. When nothing is happening he shouts about it more than ever in order to give the illusion it's exciting. Quite an annoying trait
I think it's because his brain can't keep up, then it whirs into life when nothing's happening. Please don't replace him with another Legard.

"ambition over adhesion"
"Hug the apex like it is your favourite granny"
I watched an amazing baseball clip the other day where a game ended in high-drama and a team won against the odds. The thing that really stuck out to me is that the moment the game was won and the players were going wild, the commentator just shut up. No hyperbole, nothing done to make a nice TV clip for the news, he just let the moment play out.
It was fab, we don't see nearly enough of that in F1.
Here it is, 2:30 onwards: https://youtu.be/a4qCFgzysF8p

That’s enough to make me cancel the sky subscription if the quality of C4 coverage is going to increase by that amount. Maybe Steve Jones could be moved on as well.Adrian W said:
Oh wow. Well deserved, he's the best in the business, amazed Sky didn't snap him up. I'd be genuinely ok with going to highlights only just for this next season.Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
