I think Le Clerc has started to do this, talking English in an Italian accent. He might be putting it on but accents change slightly over time for a lot of people.

When C4 said Ben Edwards was leaving I thought it was Davide Valsecchi taking over.
It would have been brilliant!

Lowest common denominator is the way all these people go, other than football, there you dont really get pandering as everyone knows what football is, surely b now everyone knows what f1 is, it doesn't need to be dumbed down so surely you can get rid of this cretinous moron who shouts endlessly.

I don't know if I would watch much F1 now these days, but this man makes me not want to, that surely has to be the case for thousands of others.

But as others say, I think it is what Sky want, it clearly must be, he was trained by them after all in darts etc, so he must be that guy.

But BT do the same with MotoGP, they think the ONLY reason anyone watches it is because of British riders, it is so patronising.

Brundle's comment when they said Valsecchi was doing the interviews - " I hope his rev limiter is on"

I listened while Croft made a painful comparison between Alonso and Tsunoda because they had both crashed at the same corner. How Brundle didn't just tell him to fk off after he'd finished I do not know.

I've always though Sky should use Davide Valsecchi for the English/global feed - he was always hilarious doing GP2, and his latin excitement was at least genuine.

Johnny 'Sort Of' Herbert though. The worst person on Sky's coverage. Next time he is on watch out for his use of 'Sort Of'.
Funny guy Herbert, I couldn't get on with his book at all, but really enjoyed him on the Bring Back V10s podcast, where he talked about the end of Team Lotus and how bad it all got. He also covered how he came across the Pedro Lamy testing crash in Silverstone 94- a brilliant listen: https://the-race.com/formula-1/bring-back-v10s-joh...

How long before Croft has an orgasm live on air when Max gets out of the car and goes to the toilet!
His decibel count and pitch of voice reach a new high every time Max does anything even as mundane as getting in his car for free practice!

Has actually been an F1 driver though.
You can give them some slack surely.
Troll with a microphone. Slagging off Alonso, Alonso doesn't want to talk to Sky, Herbert tries to make amends, Herbert then subtly drops the troll persona, makes way for Chandok and Button.

Shame really, liked him as a driver and commentating occasionally on 5Live with Croft.

Barely noticed Croft yesterday. The excitement of the race overrode him smile

BUT, he did trot out his long term, utterly stupid mantra about getting rid of blue flags once again.

what a tt.

The david croft award for talking complete toss this week goes to The bloke on Aussie superbikes right now.

"He's got doctor max on his bike, you know who the doctor is, and max well that's max biaggi, so he should be quick"

Commentator 2: "Doctor max is the name of his fathers workshop"

Because he has to make the last run sound exciting for the sound bite on the news covering Lewis’ 100th pole.

Why on earth he has to shout though, is beyond me, a quieter more respectful tone for Hamilton’s achievement would carry far more weight.

I do wish that someone would explain to the twerp how to spot the difference between 3/100ths and 3/1000ths. This is such basic stuff that only requires him to see, think, open mouth.

I feel sure that this is the most basic of competencies for any sports commentating.

IMHO Karun, JB, Nico and Ant are now the giants of SKY’s coverage. It is so long since Martin was in F1, i feel he should now be commentating and one of the above providing the colouring. Driving these things in anger must be somewhat different to what he was driving in the Jordan some 25 years ago.

There are no giants in the SKY team to be honest, all of them are distinctly average. Davidson is wet to the core, Button is padding for money, see his "evening with" thing, he clearly needs money for stuff despite being a multi millionaire. Hill and Herbert have never been much kop, the only real brightness is Karun who oozes enthusiasm and Ted who is funny, and rips the arse out of Croft incessantly as he knows what we know! You can tell Martin is just picking up a pay cheque, it's obvious in his voice most of the time, he is not that keen on modern F1 at all.

But I do feel for them, having to no be pressured by directors and producers into trying to make what is at times a very weak sport sound exciting. Yes it is at times, but Croft is a total retard, he loses me every time he opens his mouth.

What you must also understand is that the people behind the scenes are usually very young, trying to put together portfolios to move on to other sports, they might see F1 as a stepping stone to other things so they all have agendas too.

I go back frequently to listen to other teams, or the past f1 teams and it simply is the modern style, in most motorsport the comms guys are obviously, so obviously told to shout. I dont get it, I never have, it simply means I dont watch a ot of motorsport I used to now.

Well that's the trick, don't watch it. Especially as you don't seem to like the sport anyway.

I don't think that's true. I think his problem is finding new ways of saying the same thing, after this many years it's a bit forced at times. He is all over the place for Sky over the course of a weekend and I think he loves it.

From what I understand he essentially dictates the show, or at least he did when Sky first took over the broadcasting rights. I just wish he would tell Crofty he is wrong more often but I guess that wouldn't look great on the worldwide feed.

Murray spent the whole race getting stuff wrong.

Lazenby is the worst of all of them. Doesn't seem to have any genuine interest in the sport and comes out with stuff that would make Alan Partridge cringe.

I watched a bit of practice this weekend and Karun's patience with Crofty seems to be wearing thin. The ex-drivers commentary can come across as a bit forced but Karun seems to ooze genuine enthusiasm. I hope next year given that F1 is mixing things up a bit, Sky will hopefully look to do the same with their team.

Agreed on Lazenby, he seems like a project manager that turned up at the wrong office.
