Just in case you live in one of these countries or have a VPN, YouTube will be streaming the entire F1 weekend for free.

F1 site said:
Fans will be able to watch the race, live and for free, in seven European markets including: Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.
That's a very easy workaround then! Also anyone can get a free 30 day VPN... smile

Any recommendations purely for this purpose?

I'd always say ExpressVPN only because I use it and it's been fast everywhere and is very straightforward, works on all devices etc. They bill themselves as no1 most trusted VPN, not sure how they qualify that but they do have a great reputation.

Technically not a 'free' trial but it comes with a 30 day no questions asked refund if not satisfied. You will be satisfied so perhaps a little dishonest! Then again, you may well like the added layer of security and stick with it.

What are the other benefits of a VPN? If I download it to my phone do I need to watch anything that needs one on my phone and not via my TV for instance?

I honestly thought it was just a way of making sure the gubberment couldn't see what porn sites you frequent for tinfoil hatters!

(not having a go Deauce, I understand you work abroad and it'll likely mean you can watch telly over there or whatever)

Yes it's mostly due to working overseas, or even in the UK whilst on hotel WiFi etc, basically all internet traffic to/from the VPN protected device is encrypted. Also hides my true IP and geo location which is great for watching TV (which I generally am entitled to watch as a UK license payer).

1975 Race of Champions at Brands Hatch was a non-championship F1 race won by Welshman Tom Pryce. I was there and it was bloody freezing!
Yes I was there too. Bloody cold but it didn’t snow. My elation at watching Tom win made the cold irrelevant.

Proper snow? 2 years earlier at Silverstone, the BRDC International Trophy. Even Swedish drivers struggled...

Incidentally what sidewall colour do the studded tyres carry ?

Fair enough, I probably should have been more explicit - what’s the coldest race track temp? Not practice or quali, but race?
Canada 1978 according to F1 records at -5c.

Someone on reddit mentioned a more recent Canadian race (in the last 10 years) that was 8c but I can't find it.
Watkins Glen used to get some chilly weather when the US race was held there, it was always towards the end of the season, late September or October.

ETA
It could also be boiling hot, bit changeable at that time of year.

In order to further derail the thread: I went to the ADAC-Goodyear 300 km race for Group C at the Nürburgring Nordschleife on 26/27 March 1983, which turned out to be cancelled due to heavy snowfall. There was no internet at that time and we only found out upon arrival at an unexpectedly quit but beautifully white village of Nürburg.

Vaud, it would be helpful if you'd let me know you were putting the thread up, I've just spent 20 mins doing it.
Apologies. I didn't know that it was your intent to post for all of 2020... I've posted in previous seasons as have others. I will bow out for the rest of the season.

Hey guys, don't argue over this.

You both do us all a great service. Al the info in one place. It's superb.

A friend went to S'oton uni and was a member of their car club. He put in the hours and one Xmas was allowed to take home one of their vehicles; an open-sided, toastrack-bodied bus of pre-1930 vintage. We habitually went to the Boxing Day (the day after Boxing Day that year for some reason) meeting at Brands Hatch and it was thought a great wheeze for us to be in this bus. I boarded in Bromley and we handn't got to the bottom of the High Street before I was freezing. Anything less level than a hill was taken at walking pace so it took hours for the journey. Still, there was the promise of a warm cup of tea when we got there.

The meeting was cancelled due to a frozen track, which was, many on board the bus believed, still warmer than us.

Back on topic.

Mercedes team member test positive for Covid. Probably won't make any difference to the weekend though.

Get well soon to the team member.

I have a feeling we are going to see more positive tests, as the races become more spread out and people travel more between races. For the early triple headers they were in their own bubble for weeks at a time, that’s not going to be the case for the next few weeks. Team members are going to go back to their families, many with kids at school even if little other socialising is going on.

"You really have to put your balls on the dashboard ... is that how they say it in English?

Not really Toto..

"You had to squeeze your arse cheeks and commit."

That's more accurate smile

Not really been watching the F1 much this season, focused on F2 but will give FP1 a watch today to see Mick in the Alfa.
