Could you imagine the outcry if Hamilton had said what Max did.
To be fair I think the cultural context of an Englishman using the same words would be different. But either way, it's a global sport and a massive number of viewers speak english and will get the strength of his remarks. Even without the English history of the 'M' word, it's obvious he had no filter/self control. The word retard is fairly universal, and not appreciated anywhere really.
FP2 was not a great idea of pace.
FP3 should be better, the track needs evolution..
This is a brand new surface, that should offer the maximum traction (hence the C1/2/3 choice), but it’s not, massive graining, huge loads, massive pressure on the left tyres.
The guys that do the best on not perfect dry conditions, Bottas, Grosjean, Norris to out perform a team mate on Saturday (I’d say) the rest fairly even matched in Quali pace..
The grid on Sunday is a huge issue, it’s in the shade, that’s perhaps 20 meters a second off the starting pace lost.. 1st corner will be chaos..

In the heat of the moment I have no problem with what max said. He wouldn't mean it in that context when calm but when you are angry like that you look for the most offensive thing you can say.
Even in karting as a 12-16 year old the stuff I used to say to myself if i was knocked off or something had gone wrong would land you in serious trouble.

Interesting, it might just be the angle, but he doesn’t seem to be troubling the apexes that much.Drivers eye view

Stroll must have forgotten the rule that says Max has priority over all other drivers

Rather reminiscent of the Senna/Prost crash at the first corner in Suzuka in 1990 - the one where Senna had decided in advance that Prost wasn’t turning in ahead of him, and the inevitable happened. The sport collectively now disapproves of accidents like that, even though Mr Verstappen Senior and Mr Horner grew up with them.
The foul and offensive language problem does seem to be getting worse - there are kids watching F1, and I think Liberty are trying to attract more of them, and their parents.

Exactly, it was a practice session, not the last lap of the race. Stroll was the driver ahead, and as much as it might have annoyed Max that he went for a second lap, the Dutchman wasn’t close to being level until he threw it up the inside in the braking zone. Max could have backed off a fraction and carried on, but the red mist got to him and he couldn’t face not being in front.

Senna acted as though he had a god given right to each corner. And a generation venerated him for his ‘let me through or we crash’ attitude. Schumacher then took this to a level which made it look like the way to succeed in the sport. It’s no surprise drivers of that era still see that arrogance and aggression as virtues in a driver.

Morning everyone. Clear blue skies here this morning, literally not a cloud in the sky. Air temps already around 14 degrees, will be around 21 at peak during qualifying.
Loaded up with factor 50 before coming in, suspect by 3pm I’ll be well roasted with excellent crackling.
Looks spectacular, have a great day, looking forward to updates. Loaded up with factor 50 before coming in, suspect by 3pm I’ll be well roasted with excellent crackling.

I think the foul language has always been there (and trackside punch ups in times gone by) it’s just that it is better recorded these days?
Oh indeed. It was a problem in football too, until the broadcasters and authorities told players they’d be booked for swearing. The occasional happy “Is that a (bleep) podium?”, as said by Ricciardo last weekend is fine, but “Oh the (bleep) (bleep), that (bleep) (bleep) (bleep) is a (bleep) (bleep)” isnt.
Don’t forget the live audio goes out on F1TV too, and clips quickly end up on YouTube. It looks terrible for the sport and the young audiences they’re trying to attract.

I think the turning point was when Schumacher took Villeneuve out, having done the same to Hill a couple of years previously. It’s no surprise drivers of that era still see that arrogance and aggression as virtues in a driver.
We can argue that they’ve gone too far the other way nowadays, but I think we can all acknowledge that drivers causing accidents on purpose is both unsportsmanlike and bloody dangerous.
One thing I’ve always admired about Lewis, is the way he’s gone about his racing - much cleaner than those champions before him.
New chassis for Gasly, and a curfew breach for Alpha Tauri repairing the car (but no penalty) after it caught fire yesterday.
New chassis for Latifi’s Williams too.
