Or be out of the points and not put in a fastest lap.

It's not going to happen for Bottas.
Yep, short of Lewis getting COVID the championship is realistically over.

Second place is still theoretically very much up for grabs, and that’s the one that I need Bottas to get sewn up. (Had a little bet at the start of the season)

Even with a nasty bout of covid Lewis has probably already done enough.

Bottas would have to take maximum points across each race, which in a world with Max in it is unlikely. Max would almost always be far enough in front of the pack to pit and take the fastest lap point for example..

Lewis has this sewn up tighter than a ducks butt. Just have to wait for Bottas 4.0 next year wink

Bottas needs to concentrate very hard on securing the P2 position. To be driving what is by far the best car on the grid & yet still not even come second in the WDC for a second time would really start to raise questions about why he's got the drive.

It would raise questions on the interwebs about why he has the car...

At Merc HQ I think they'd still consider him the most perfect driver imaginable for that car! Until the end of next season that is, at which point he misght be seen as rather less critical.

I know it’s fashionable to criticise Bottas, but he’s a damn sight closer to his team mate than either Vettel or Albon have been all season.

He’s done a great job for the team, in securing that historic seventh title with a third of the season still to go!

Mercedes have done a great job for their drivers smile

Red flagged already! What a crock.

Tracks not gonna improve if you don't let anyone use it confused

How many times is that this season, that they’ve not had the track ready for the start of a session?

Edit: to be fair, having seen a replay it appears that Mr Leclerc had something to do with it, taking out the pit entry cone and leaving exposed studs close to the racing line.

It was flagged to replace a cone that LeClerc drove over which to be fair looks like a bigger job than it sounds.

But yes, he only ran over it as the tracks crazy slippy and could be described as 'not ready'!

Looks like it might be just about rubbered in by quali.

I really, really hope this track doesn't rubber in too much.

Or is that being a bit evil?

Nope. It’s the same for everyone, they have to take the track as they find it.

But catch 22 at the moment. They can't drive hard enough to get the rubber down to improve it very quickly..

It'll definitely get better but I'm not sure we'll see necks snapping through turn 8 today!

So, last time we were here, Vetttel was on pole with a lap of 1m 25.0s.

This morning’s fastest time is 1m 37.15s, twelve and a half seconds slower - it’s almost a wet lap from 2011.

It's not riveting viewing though. I showered at 7.15 for this.

What an odd session that was..

I'm not convinced the tracks going to evolve fast enough to even start getting proper rubber down. Quali could be fun smile

Bottas would also have to beat whoever is in the other Merc subbing for Lewis, and considering that Merc will win the driver's championship whether Bottas wins it or not, I'm not sure the team would use team orders to keep the replacement driver behind him.
