Does anyone know of an online guide to setting up US F1TV with a VPN? I take it you need to use some sort of pre-paid credit card registered in the US for it to work? I'm not paying sky anymore, the exclusivity deal can die a horrible death!

This is a rough guide from the top of my head and based on being on Android.

  • Have a card registered in Google Pay
  • Connect to VPN in US
  • Register on F1TV / F1 site with email address
  • Download F1TV app from Google Play
  • Sign in to F1 TV app
  • Subscribe to F1 TV and pay using Google Pay
There might be a few steps missing, but I did this back at the end of 2021 and now just connect to VPN to watch the F1 races

Doesn't only need to be a VPN US. I did this method for the 2021/22 season and used Mullvad VPN and connected via a server in Sweden IIRC which worked fine.

I used this same method, actually purchased F1TV Pro via the google payment account on my phone (UK debit card) but had installed the VPN client (surfshark in my case) onto the phone and set my country as belgium. worked flawlessly smile

and for watching F1, its laptop via HDMI into the soundbar/telly, connected via ethernet to the router (wifi is rubbish) and running the VPN client.

can anyone clarify what this means on the uk f1 option? Seems to indicate a delayed replay of the race that weekend.
How delayed? Next year?

I used PayPal via Google Pay to set up F1 TV. No trickery with addresses etc and I don't have any special accounts other than my UK bank account that it's linked to. Never done anything like this before setting it up but it was shockingly straightforward!

I use Express VPN with it and pick USA, it worked flawlessly all last season. F1 TV commentary option alone was worth the price of entry.

Those that use F1 TV, silly question, but what feed is the live commentary? is it basically Sky routed through F1 TV etc? or do F1 TV use their own commentators? Cheers

You can choose, Sky is better IMO ( as no Buxton), also French/Spanish etc..

Nb, ill edit and update, Brundle (Alex) and Joylon Palmer are both excellent on F1 TV, and when Ben Edwards (from old Eurosport/C4 days) is commentating, its well worth a listen..

Its just Croft/Buxton, and Croft just is a tiny bit more bearable than Buxton..

Five live do the best coverage on the F1 app, and yes you can just about sync it.

I prefer the f1 TV commentary, much calmer. You can choose between that and the Sky commentary.

I personally think Alex Brundle is now a better commentator than his Dad, Palmer is also decent despite the fact I was never a fan when he was a driver!

I use Nord on my phone with no issues.

Also have it on my Android TV (Sony Bravia) with the F1TV app so can watch from the TV without having to use a HDMI cable from a device or any casting method. smile

Managed to sort F1 TV pro subscription out, as I don't have android, I downloaded the app on my iPhone and subscribed that way via the Apple Store.

As I was clicking through and it was talking about the features/benefits etc of the subscription, it mentioned on demand?!?
Those that use F1 TV, is there catchup available? I.e. if I'm 30 mins late home missing the start, can I start from the beginning of the race? Or if I miss the race entirely how soon does the race appear on the app to watch at my pleasure?

Cheers all.

Yes you can watch from the start of a live race stream, and skip back and forth up to the point of live. You'll love it, it's so much better value for money and useful than Sky.

I assume they do their own pre-show and post-show rather than using the Sky ones?

Yes.

And if you can avoid being tainted by the piss taking online of Buxton, or missing the angst between Ted and the fat controller then I found we soon settled into a new tempo and tone.

Initially it may feel a little flat off the back of the screamathon but get to know the crew, their strengths, and the balance of voices and I genuinely believe it's one of the best setups since the 80/90s.

Another bonus is the rotation. Not every face, not every voice is at every destination. Which can be a little unsettling in continuity at first but the spine remains the same which keeps the mix of personalities, opinions, and injection of insight ever changing and fresh.

Especially where the actual commentary is concerned.

Having a 'flavour' voice, an 'explainer', and a 'details' member really fills the core set for me and reminds me of the days when Martin would tap Murray on the shoulder, indicating he had something worth saying. Not the current overtalking-fest for airtime screenbites and toktiks.
I agree. Initially I used to chose the Sky commentary for the sake of familiarity but more and more I now leave the F1 feed guys on, they're relaxed in their roles and very informative and insightful. More 'F1' and less TV zaniness and racket. I could live with either but I'm starting to lean away from Sky, and I do find it easier to focus on the race without constant interruptions from Croft having an orgasm over something that hasn't actually happened.

Sky is better post-race in terms of quickly nabbing big-shots like Horner and Wolff but F1TV is better all round and the tech stuff is far superior to Ted wittering.

I'm struggling to get at all excited about the prospect of this upcoming season. I might even cancel my Now TV membership.

Same, it's become a bit too 'interfered with' as a sport. I've lost some enthusiasm.

But F1TV is so cheap I'll lazily watch, but I definitely wouldn't pay now tv prices!

ETA: F1TV pro is about £65 a year currently.

Pretty excited, few livery reveals will get me in the mood. Just a shame it'll be back to a few streams and C4 highlights for me, axing a few subscriptions because paying for literally every individual thing these days is getting stupid.
