Watching F1 on TV

I was thinking the same - it is optional, you can have F1TV or Sky commentary - which is an amazing choice to have at long last! Far better than the days of trying to sync radio commentary to a live feed in order to ditch Croft...
I did not, I'll give it a shot tomorrow for the race, I had some issues with my laptop before qualifying today (kvms stopped working!) Essentially you just edit out Croft once he gets over excited. It's a great power to have
Frustraitingly I didn't get any picture when connecting my MacBook Air to the TV via HDMI today (with a proper Apple HDMI dongle), and I still can't get a picture now that I'm connected to my docking station, yet disconnecting the HDMI adapter or docking station and viewing on the laptop screen was perfectly fine.
It was working perfectly fine for FP3 and Qualifying yesterday.

I'm not normally a fan of a front room full of TV screen... But that's just fking awesome Race control at home...
First outing didn’t go well.
Tried to AirPlay from qualifying onwards. (It worked whilst setting it up during practice sessions). However, each time I tried it an error message appeared. Stop AirPlay and the app would work. Very annoying.
Will try hdmi from phone and see if that works. If not, then it’s getting canned. Which is a shame as had to put up with Croft instead.

Think there's restrictions on casting. MotoGP do the same it might be to do with piracy.Tried to AirPlay from qualifying onwards. (It worked whilst setting it up during practice sessions). However, each time I tried it an error message appeared. Stop AirPlay and the app would work. Very annoying.

Mine works fine on an inexpensive android TV box effort, with VPN etc.

Interesting - I had the same issues too and just assumed my wifi was crapping out at times (my TV decided to disconnect itself from the network mid-race, which it's never done before!) but I was also getting the crashing app. It worked fine if I just left it on the iPad.Tried to AirPlay from qualifying onwards. Does anyone know if you can get the F1 TV app on xbox or PS? I have them connected directly to the TV so they might be more stable; the Samsung TV store doesn't carry the app.
I didn't get around to sorting F1TV out in time but found the hour-long highlights on Sky Showcase at 6:30pm quite refreshing.
Obviously you need Sky already to get it so it's already more expensive than F1TV and a VPN but if you're like me and still bitter about cancelling the £5 a month SkyF1 subscription you had so watched the C4 highlights in the depths of the evening instead it's an alternative option... when they show it (I don't think they do it for all races).
I did wonder if Sky might do a special on the F1 for a month to see if they could hook people in on the back of the success of Drive to Survive etc but presumably their numbers are already high enough to justify the monopoly they have in the UK.
Glad to see the F1TV worked out for so many of you.
For anyone with an Android TV (In my case a Sony Bravia) you can download the F1 TV app by "side loading" as it's called. (installing an application package in APK format onto an Android device.)
You have to make sure the .APK is the latest version but this is how could watch the F1 without having to mucking about with casting or HDMI cables.

Amazon Firesticks work well & the F1TV app is in the store so no need to sideload & I find the remote is much better than trying to use the Sony TV one. They are expensive at the moment though.
