If I VPN in and sign up to F1 TV Pro, do I need to carry on using the VPN to be able to access it going forward?

Yes.

Whenever I watch I connect up to my VPN, then open the F1TV app and I never have any issues. After I finish watching I usually disconnect from the VPN.

Ex F1TV user here from when they rumbled VPNs last year and I wasnt actually that bothered due to the "quality" of the racing

However today I thought Id give it another go:
a) to check out Bearman's progress
b) as a cure for insomnia

I routinely use Express VPN and all of their blurb suggests it is now good but it just wont work

On my laptop its all good, pretend to be in the US and I can use my old login to get access to lots of the site including the payment screen which I obviously cant use as it needs a US address for my credit card

Unfortunately it knows my iPad is in Leeds no matter which US city I use with the VPN and consequently I cant use the Apple pay trick to pay, unlike on my laptop it immediately flags Im not in the states and wont let me get any further

Are any of you using Express VPN to sign up this year and if so how did you get it to work?
If another VPN and all is good then Id also like to hear from you please

Cheers

EDIT: Express VPN subs expire next month so I took a punt on Nords middle plan "birthday offer" of £54 for 27 months and have just dozed off as MV wins. Which is a result of sorts smile

ExpressVPN are one of the biggest and as such have been well and truly rumbled by several streaming services including F1TV.

Nord are better as they refresh their VPN IP's very frequently which makes detection slower. I'm with Nord too, but I pay a little extra for a dedicated IP so it can't be detected in the same way.

Is your ipad permitting location access to the F1 app?

We had a one or two iffy races last year with nord but seems they fixed it.

There was a funny process to buying the sub though. It worked only by buying it through the google play store plus VPN of course. The first time it didn't work and google play store are atrocious and basically reply to any customer service issue with "it's been investigated and closed" and do nothing. I wouldn't let them have my card details but for the fact it's the only way! Is it possible to get someone with an apple device to buy a sub and still log in via android?

You just need an Apple ID. I setup a new one and used that via a VPN to buy the subscription, all whilst logged in on my iPhone with my normal appleID.

It’s just so F1TV don’t see it as a UK card, rather the money comes from Apple. Then you can sign in on any device. I’ve used my F1TV on several Apple devices with my original AppleID and it works. I’ve also used my desktop pc with the same credential’s.

The AppleID is purely for payment.

Cool might look into that, googly pay is just nasty but CBA using a totally different platform when everything here is pc/android.

  • Anti-woke rant warning*, but does anyone else find it a bit annoying that F1a is being pushed at you on the same selection lines on the homepage as F1 itself while F2&3 has been relegated off the main screen completely - not even a link - and you've got to go trawling through calendar and sub menus to find it? Find it a bit cringe TBH.

Let's be generous and say that it's not unusual to give a new thing extra focus so it can hit the ground running...

But also yes, they're no doubt very proud of doing a woke thing to get girls into the sport and want the world to know they've done it.

Tis the world we live in. Do a good thing so you can shout about how good you are smile

Just tried to subscribe from 'Austria' via Nord VPN here in UK and it all goes fine until you have to put in your card details and billing address. It's expecting an address in Austria.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

Just tried myself. I get the subscription page and it’s listing the price in pounds. I’m assuming that isn’t what I’m supposed to be seeing.

Yes. Google with charge in your local currency regardless. I pay £72.

I hadn’t made it through to any payment gateway (on iPhone so it’ll be Applepay), it was simply the sub price page I saw.

For reference, I’m on iPhone and installed surfshark as it offered 7 days free trial and had great reviews. Set my VPN to the USA and restarted F1TV app. This is what I see.

Perhaps it's just me, but I'm not massively keen on the new Sky studio, with all the green screen/augmented reality stuff. It feels really detached, especially when they're interviewing drivers via an online feed. It's just ... weird! Why have they moved away from 100% trackside presenting? Flights/money/climate/net zero?

Channel 4’s decision to leave Steve Jones (who is now advertising TikTok on tv) back in Britain was a good idea but why when he interviews someone does he have to play the comedian? He’s not funny just cringeworthy. When the other presenters interview someone they are professional.

That image is showing correctly as it will display the cost in your local currency. Just pay with Apple Pay and it will be fine as it does not pass on your country details.

Top Man! That worked a treat - thanks.

Only mistake I made was to do in in USA, where it was about £10 dearer than Austria. But hey, an extra £10 to get shot of Croft, Lazenby and Schift - bargain!

Thanks again.thumbup

Amazing. Thanks for confirming.
