I thought their launch was embarrassing. A rapper doing the voiceover, Lawrence Stroll reading from a script, everyone suited and booted like outdated office dwellers, then an American footballer to say that the car 'looks fast' so I gave up then.
Compare that to Mercedes' launch yesterday with Toto just talking freely about the car, the team, the ambitions. James Alison telling us about the details, Lewis and Valtteri chatting. Yes they all knew what they wanted to get across and had a basic plan for the interviews but they were not reading from an autocue!
Pretty much where I gave up too - Seemed a bit awkward, and random bits of film stitched together one second the drivers were pulling the cover off and on the next cut they'd both disappeared.Compare that to Mercedes' launch yesterday with Toto just talking freely about the car, the team, the ambitions. Bit of a ‘nothing’ shade. Hopefully it will look more exciting in real light.
I think it will, the lighting in that shot is not doing it any justice at all. On the launch video it looked very high gloss (almost chrome green) which is a nice change from the matt liveries on the grid. Should look good under the lights, won't have to wait long to find out!It was a bit 'try hard', but at least more entertaining than some entirely corporate focussed launches. I think the car looks great, love the green - not really any surprises as such.
Nice to see them get Daniel Craig involved to reinforce the 'Aston'-ness of the new team and play up the 007 connection. Further reinforced by Gemma Arterton of course. All made complete sense from a brand pov.
The rapper at the start and the American football player - that was just plain weird and seemed pointless

Not that it matters, but it's a modern twist on the 1959 AM Racing Green (which differed through the years). The Carfection video's quite a good one - some fairly well lit footage, albeit like most, it's last year's car with this year's livery.TheDeuce said:

I didn't know who she was, actually I assumed she was a sort of 'rent a Sky Sports' presenter type person. I now realise she is something to do with the James Bond films. As I mentioned I gave up when the American footballer was explaining the design features that make the car fast. I like the Aston Martin, the pink could have been much worse than that.
Yeah I've got to take back what I said before, it's not horredous. Like to see more angles though and what it looks like in the daylight. As for the design I assume that this is just last year's Mercedes?

I’ve seen a few more pics on Twitter now and it’s more of a Petronas green/turquoise than a green isn’t it? The strip me seems more red than pink too
There's a lot of variance in the shade of AM green/blue in different images. This is a screenshot of 3 video cover images in my YouTube subscriptions that happened to be together. One is definitely green, the others look more blue.RichB said:

I think they were wise to play upon the Bond connection in general though, AM themselves were keen to make more of that image even ahead of the Stroll led buyout. They were extremely willing to help ensure the as yet unreleased new Bond film had as mush Aston in it as possible I'd expect to see more of Daniel Craig 'hanging out' (being paid) at the Aston garage at least at one GP this year.

I don't think that it was pointless. Stroll is bringing North American audience to the game. I don't know if you were looking at the comments on the side but most of them knew who those guys were and thought that it was "cool". Edited by TheDeuce on Wednesday 3rd March 16:04

Gemma is a very well known actor not just because of Bond.
Brady, greatest quarterback in history and current superbowl champion. Thats major USA mainstream presence.
Stroll is all about the money, he knows how important the USA market is for Aston Martin.
Brady is probably the single most famous sportsman in the USA right now, and as you say just won the Super Bowl for the umpteenth time. They’d have paid him well into the six figures for the appearance, but it will be all over American media between now and the start of the F1 season. As someone who just doesn't understand the appeal of American football, and gets annoyed by their use of the word football when they throw and catch it mostly , even I know who Tom Brady is and how ridiculously successful he is. If the aim is to get maximum coverage in the US that's one of the most effective ways to go about it. Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
