Football knows best here. You change the support team/manager till you get better results.
And they do that by coming in and buying new players, getting rid of underperformers and problematic players, despite past reputations.F1 is not a sport anyway and is just a place with lots of jobs and people want to keep their jobs. So blame one person in the car.
To some if a shumacher or senna was in the williams/alpine/mclaren this year they would be leading the title race.

I don't think anyone would think WIlliams would win the title this year with any driver.
As for blaming one person in the car, Ocon is in the same car. Not been beaten by Alonso this year.
There's been rumours circulating for a few weeks now that Alonso is out of Alpine.
It was Abiteboul who brought him back and he's long gone.
Szafnauer knows Ocon well from the Force India days. I entirely wouldn't be surprised (or disagree) if they sent Alonso into retirement and brought Piastri in.

Do you think Ocon is better than Alonso? I can provide a points table to prove it if you want.
Do I think Ocon is better than Alonso was 16 years ago.....That's a different question.

It's a bit too simplistic to rate drivers only by championship points after six rounds.
Do you think Russell is better than Hamilton? and Tsunoda better than Gasly?

Is he still going to get his go in the Mercedes that Toto promised him?
They did say they would again this year, I guess it depends on logistics given his racing seaason. Also haven't Mercedes used up their filming days this year?

But this is a speculative thread so I’m saying anything goes. like this for instance:
Does the slow start to alonso’s 2021 season mean that Alonso is more astute and politically minded to steer the updates to the car to favour his driving style rather than Ocon’s?
He is after all, a wily old fox…..
It was amusing in Australia that 'wily old fox' Alonso single-handedly launched a successful campaign to get rid of one of the DRS zones on 'safety' grounds because Alpine had calculated that their car would be more competitive compared to others in qualifying if the DRS zone was removed- Then it backfired massively when the technical problem in qualifying and race strategy misfortunes led to him spending the whole race stuck behind slower cars and probably lamenting the fact that one of the DRS zones wasn't in use.
I am pleased for Ocon. Alonso totally steamrollering Vandoorne was not comfortable watching. However, if you have Alonso in your team I don't think you are ousting him in favour of Ocon for the lead driver role. Abiteboul's logic in signing Alonso was sound- a serious driver for a serious team.
I would like Piastri's debut to come at the expense of some other driver. I am enjoying having Alonso in the sport.

I agree this may happen only because they can then wallow in mediocrity. Alonso makes expectations higher. It was Abiteboul who brought him back and he's long gone.

A half decent driver in a good team can win the f2 and f3 titles. Doesnt mean they will be a great F1 driver. They come along very rarely.
The much maligned Latifi has won 6 f2 races. I guess in a better car he would look a bit better than he does now.
