I'm not so much interested in individual drivers' performances. This is only testing, so foolhardy to look too much at times. I think we'll only glean how much of a handle they have on their cars when we get to the first race in a couple of weeks.
What I'm more interested in is how teams approach the fact that they have just 3 days to get the cars up to speed before that first race.
No time for fannying about, no time for failures. If something is wrong, there's very little time to fix it.
What will be critical for the drivers is not binning it.
I'm thinking the same. With only half as much testing as previously the pressure is on and it should be a much more interesting watch for us.What I'm more interested in is how teams approach the fact that they have just 3 days to get the cars up to speed before that first race.

Also it's interesting to see just how held back the teams have been with the new regs and limited development opportunities. I'm guessing a couple of teams have probably done something a bit clever that we'll soon learn about.
We could well end up with a Max / Lewis tussle at the absolute sharp end, but I forsee the battle for 3rd/4th to be a barnstomer. If Ferrari have got their act together then Vettel / Perez / LeClerc / Sainz / Ricciardo / Norris i see as nip/tuck for that podium when the Merc isnt the fastest car.

Poor ol Bottas. I felt he was utterly patronised by the TV presenters etc, with all the Bottas 2.0 nonsense and asking if the "New Valtteri" was meaner and tougher etc.... I'd be interested how the likes of ol Mansell would have responded to modern day commentators?
Mansell would have just moaned, moaned, moaned and when he finished moaning he would have started whingeing. Muzzer79 said:

Williams can't afford to show up two days late again this year.No time for fannying about, no time for failures. If something is wrong, there's very little time to fix it.

He liked a good moan did ol Nige but I don't think he, or Senna or Hunt and certainly not Piquet Snr (who famously punched Salazar) would have engaged with the patronising nonsense some of the TV presenters have loaded on good ol Bottas.thegreenhell said:
It looks like Sky have live coverage of all the testing again this year.
Yep they sure do:https://twitter.com/SkySportsF1/status/13678241059...
Looking forward to it in glorious 4K resolution!

Easy surely. Find an interview of mansell and co and see what sort of deep concepts of time and space they engaged in with the mic bearer.
I remember one where murray pressed the bump on his head.

I would love nothing more than for Williams to suprise everyone & turn up with an absolute Rocket ship, "B" spec or not. Until proven otherwise I'm going to savour this thought.
Apparently this is the first year (in many) they have actually made the car minimum weight, they can now have ballast...I don't think the Williams is going to be that far off the pace this season. I reckon it will either be close to or ahead of the Haas. I'm fairly certain Haas have effectively binned 2021 in favour of concentrating on 2022. Williams should have made improvements in a lot of areas and with new owners should have a load of renewed enthusiasm behind their effort.

My Prediction:
They will talk for the first half of each session about their expected order of lap times through the teams and between each teams' drivers. hey will talk about the differences between last years' regulations and this, explaining why teams are so far off last year's times.
Then when it's apparent they're absoutely miles off with the pecking order predictions they will start talking about what sort of programs with extra fuel terams are running, and experimenting with the new tyre temperature windows is happening, and this is why we are not seeing the times we were expecting.

Apparently this is the first year (in many) they have actually made the car minimum weight, they can now have ballast...It would still mean the same result though - Williams can finally use ballast to improve their setup at each circuit. On the downside, if it is mostly/all down to the min weight limit increase, all the others will benefit from that change in various ways too..
Still, if it's a tiny improvement for Williams it could help them finally beat Haas - not much of a target but I'm sure they'd love to not be dead last for a third year. I'd expect however that really all of Williams hopes and dreams are currently fixed on hitting the ground running in 2022.

not binning it is where i hope to see Vettel. If he can get through testing without pirouetting like a ballerina then it bodes well.

Battle for 3rd/4th in WDC and also 3rd/4th in WCC will probably be the most exciting storyline in terms of racing this season. Most interesting for me is:We could well end up with a Max / Lewis tussle at the absolute sharp end, but I forsee the battle for 3rd/4th to be a barnstomer. If Ferrari have got their act together then Vettel / Perez / LeClerc / Sainz / Ricciardo / Norris i see as nip/tuck for that podium when the Merc isnt the fastest car.
- How much have Ferrari improved now they finally have the new PU? Have they just become a more fearsome midfield contender or are they back as a bone-fide 'top team'? (I suspect the former)..
- Who has the best car between Mclaren and Aston? I'm expecting Alpine are now going to be properly left behind by both teams.. I don't see that they've made half the effort to evolve their car as much as the others for the last two years now.
What I'm looking forward to in terms of pre-season testing specifically is analysis of the various teams approach to dealing with the new aero rules. Across ten teams it's very likely that some will have been sufficiently successful (or not) at absorbing the aero changes to change the order between them and their immediate competitors.

I'm most interested in Vettel, see if the more stable Aston car better suits him.
