The main interest for me will be McLaren. We should see within reason what the Mercedes PU is worth, or not, compared to the Renault.
Unless something odd happens, Ferrari should be fighting for 2nd at least.

In WCC? You reckon they still have the march on RB? - obviously assuming they have sorted out their PU power deficit endured last season..

Fair enough. It will be interesting to see if they are back up at the top, able to fight for 2nd and in general podiums.

I'm not sure if their PU update will get them as far as battling at the top, or simply more of a midfield headache for the likes of Aston/McLaren, but so long as they're being competitive and disruptive at either level I'll be happy. As will the Ferrari board no doubt.

I'm gonna stick my neck on the block and make a strong prediction though... Red Bull will beat Ferrari in WCC this season. Max will beat both Ferrari drivers in the WDC smile

I would love Sainz to kick Max's arse. I think he will surprise people this year.

Sainz is my bet this year, for surprising on the upside. The known unknown is going to be how the team deal with it and let them race.

My concern is they’ll use him as a strategic roadblock to try and get Max splitting the two Mercs, rather than letting him optimise his own race strategy. If they go into the season with their primary aim of getting Max at least second in the drivers’ championship, they’re the sort of team who wouldn’t care what had to happen to the other driver to achieve that goal.

At least Mercedes generally let their two drivers race each other on the track, even though one is the stronger driver over a season.

Edit: bks, I don’t mean Sainz do I, I mean Perez at RB. Although Sainz atFerrari may well suffer from similar issues of being a formal #2 to Leclerc.

I think at least one of you is getting Sainz confused with Perez.

How so?

Unless the car is an unstable mess aerodynamically, Perez should keep Max honest too.

Errrrr, maybe more coffee is required! Of course I didn’t misread the post I was replying to, and think Sainz was driving a Red Bull. Not at all. wobble

You, I wasn't sure about. You had been talking about Ferrari, and then you mentioned you'd like to see Sainz beating Max. So you probably mean Sainz in the Ferrari beating Max in a Red Bull, but the way you wrote it, it could also be interpreted as Max being beaten by his Red Bull team mate.

Sandpit Steve's reply, however, would make much more sense to me if he was talking about Perez, not Sainz.

Maybe I'm the one misreading it all smile

Well that's a new way of reading a clear comment.

I have zero clue how you could confuse Sainz as Perez based on what i wrote.

It wasn't clear to at least two of us. Don't get defensive about it. I was making a harmless comment.

What is not clear about "I would love Sainz to kick Max's arse. I think he will surprise people this year." ?

How do you take from that I'm talking about a Red Bull driver?

Let's not forget Sainz was dropped in favour of Hulkenburg a couple of seasons ago, to accommodate Ricciardo at Renault.

He's a driver in the mould of a Perez or a Bottas, he's not going to get any quicker (he's 27 in September) but he's consistent and picks up points. Ferarri will say both drivers are equal but to me it looks like LeClerc is very much their focus and Sainz is the solid #2. I would be absolutely amazed if Sainz has the beating of LeClerc over the season, let alone Max!

I'm interested if Alonso will be fit and able to attend. He missed the launch 2 weeks ago.

I'd have thought we'd know by now if he wasn't going to make it.

Was a post yesterday think it was by sky sports or f1 saying he is fit and ready for the test.

Edit. Found it.
