He'll attract a fair sized audience from around the world, and it'll be good advertising. The coverage should be great. He's on board for results off the leader boards rather than on them.
Dead right Derek. The car is simply not competitive anymore, it's way under evolved since 2018 compared to the rest of the midfield and the PU has never been that impressive either.

It costs £10m per 1/10th of a second in F1 they say... Far cheaper to employ Fred who'll find various other ways of raising headlines. In fact, the slower the car is the more likely he'll raise headlines and keep the sponsors happy smile
A few hours left to see if the Enstone magicians have any tricks up their sleeves. Lets hope so - the more spice in the midfield the better.

If all the cars finish Alonso will do well to finish in the top 10.

I've made my prediction.. And if I'm wrong I'll be happy for the hard working chaps at Enstone and their French masters wink

Can't see it being the case though. I think they failed to meet their targets already and are now on ice pending whatever they have planned for 2022.

This is the curious and possibly even more frustrating aspect of this season - not only the token system, but even worse the need to divert resource to deal with the new 2022 concept. The competitive order is possibly going to be even more baked in from the beginning. All we can hope for is that the early gaps are slim.

FWIW I think the top six grid positions are set barring SNAFUs - Red Bull, Mercedes and McLaren. The next 8 positions are going to be fascinating - Alpha Tauri, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Alpine. Can they escape the pack? One old timer and one pensioner trying to put manners on a bunch of whippersnappers. Another pensioner might put the Alfa into this bunch too.

Thank goodness the winter lull has passed. Looking forward to this for all sorts of reasons.

I do agree that what we start with is probably more or less what we end up with this season - although some cars will respond better to setup changes than others and might improve results as the teams/drivers learn.

Definitely Merc and RB at the top. Third team in my view could be McLaren or just as easily Aston this time. As a wildcard, we don't actually know how improved Ferrari are... If they're close to their former strength they could easily be the third team. So, I see the third team as a bit of an unknown 3 way battle.

It is indeed time to put this lockdown winter to bed and start another globe trotting season of F1 smile

Haha well its not just him. They blamed their failures on perez as well. Nearly killed off his career.
It needs to be front and centre news that perez won a race before mclaren did.
Willing to accept its some sort of spanish armada/catholic thing mclaren cant get over lol.
McLaren is a different team than when Ron ran it, it's also the team that gave Fred a lifeline post his failure at Ferrari.

It's going to be fun to watch him at Renault.
Yes Zack has done a great job and its pretty much all new faces in all key positions. Plus likeable drivers. Hope they do well now.
Cant blame them for the past.

why do you say that?

How many drivers on the grid do you think don't believe they're there to try to (and can) win the title?

I find the whole Bond / Aston Martin thing entirely cringeworthy.

You mean the seb > bond thing or the fact that Aston are long associated with Bond..?

If the latter you're going to seriously dislike the upcoming film.

A lot or the sour outlook on alonso can probably be attributed to mclaren employees getting shown up for being crap after peddling that aloof attitude for way to many years after they were any good.
If you have a bedroom wall festooned with faded mclaren posters you will naturally fall in line like a good disciple.
Alpine are thrilled to have Alonso onboard after losing richiardo. You cant be credible as one of the major teams with 2 nobodies driving. The only other drivers floating around haven't even been on a podium.
F1 and the TV audience is even more thrilled as its showbiz and the more big names the better.
Renault/alpine may look a bit worse in 2021 but thats down to the identikit aston martin effort couresy of mercedes.
Still it will all be clearer on sunday evening. I think that after a few years in the wilderness of other racing series ,every day is a great day for Alonso.
Get yourself down to the chippy, you need another chip for the other shoulder. You can almost see the spittle in that post. laugh
laugh

I really want Richiardo to be deliberate.

As a Ferrari fan I hope the Scuderia do better this year, I however don't expect them to be up there.

I also hope Mick S does as well as possible at HAAS, and beats Nikita. I also hope Seb does well for Aston Martin.

I think he probably knows that but you can't exactly go out and say you know that fact and then expect to be able to stick around in F1.

It applies even more so to Bottas and he still says he can be a WDC.

Ricciardo is a modern day Button- lacking the last 10th in qualifying but great in the race. Like Button, he could be a WDC in the right car.

I think Alonso's signing (and the team's budget, senior structure, branding) reflect that there is no clear strategy about what Renault want from F1. Having said that, whatever the question is, a 39 year old troublemaker is rarely the answer.

Most people could win the WDC in that Mercedes, apart from Bottas.
