Monaco is great for nostalgia and the spectacle but rarely does it ever make for a good race! 2008 maybe?
I really wish they would drop Monaco, it's just awful. The whole angle on 'glamour' is also very, very tired and boring. MustangGT said:

Two things are weird:
1) how often people complain F1 isn't like other motorsport series that exist separately.
2) these people seem more likely to watch F1 than the other series that offer exactly what they say they want.
If F1 needs fixing by becoming like other series, how come it's the most popular motorsport in the world? Maybe because so many people that don't like it watch it anyway
Your argument is flawed. Monaco is the most popular race. Is it the best? Nope1) how often people complain F1 isn't like other motorsport series that exist separately.

Overall it is fair to say it's one of the most popular though, across all fans and casual viewers. It's typically around third most viewed on TV for example.

Over on Sky they’ve got Rachel Brookes doing the commentary, with colour from Button and Chandok.
An interesting idea for the first session of the weekend, which by nature is quite slow and more analytical rather than action-packed.
Lovely to have a Croft-free hour. If only they could do that for all sessions. An interesting idea for the first session of the weekend, which by nature is quite slow and more analytical rather than action-packed.

It’s a good idea and works well for that session, but I’m not sure Brooks would be the right choice for the race start or the last minute of Q3. Great to see them mixing things up though, the more conversational style was better than a shouty Crofty on a Friday morning. Well done Sky and Rachel.

What’s up with Ricciardo, is he that much slower than Norris? Did he hit traffic (not able to watch P1). I was expecting it to be really tight between them, and then expecting to be impressed when Lando was quicker than him a couple of times. At the moment Lando is wiping the floor with him? Has Ricciardo had his day??

I would imagine it's just a question of the car not suiting his driving style. He managed the transition from Redbull to Renault remarkably well, but for whatever reason he seems to be struggling in the Mclaren. kambites said:

I'm fine with the driver's being self assured and arrogant, it's part of the makeup for a good driver, but he manages to be somehow just that much more irritating with it, so having someone in their 3rd season make a mockery of him would be entertaining even if just for the Drive To Survive interviews once he's announced he's moving to Haas alongside Mazespin for the 'opportunity' (money / lack of competition)
Oh, and seven.

Either that's true, or we are to believe he's become personally a second+ slower over the winter.. doesn't seem likely!

I'm Spartacus, I mean eight.
I said this before and I might be wrong, but I think it's a bigger change to switch teams to a car with a different engine. DR had years with Renault engined cars, now he's got a Mercedes it might drive a different way to what he's used to.
Also in the interview he said something about the Merc unit being higher revving than the Renault. As both are rpm limited I assume he means the power band is different, and the merc unit comes on power slightly higher rpm.I said this before and I might be wrong, but I think it's a bigger change to switch teams to a car with a different engine.
