Official 2021 Spanish Grand Prix Thread **SPOILERS**
Discussion
Are they allowed to change PU modes in FP3..? If not, Max did a great job of hiding that half second all session until the very end!
This is going to be so close. I think Lewis will take it as he has quite a bit still to string together - but that's a loose prediction, I'm not that confident

You have your answer.
Yea as I posted max smashes a lap on on softs LOLStill don’t know if can beat Lewis to the Pole but atleast we know hi.s in with a chance cause they looked nowhere.
Interesting to see a Ferrari McLaren battle. Wonder which if the 2 will have the race pace.

After all the complaining about this circuit (fair enough..) it looks like it's about to deliver probably one of the most thrilling quali sessions of the season. And in all likelihood, he who is P1 will go on to win tomorrow - so the result today really, really matters
Unless it is Bottas or Perez... n3il123 said:

Unless it is Bottas or Perez... Can't see Perez getting to P1 though, it would require both Lewis, Bottas and Max to screw up. I have to say Bottas could do it, as he does on occasion beat even Lewis. Overall though, when under pressure from Max Lewis has a habit of pulling out an absolute blinder of a lap.

No the start of FP3 is Parc Ferme now, but they can press overtake and empty the ERS, the Honda has a 'supercharger' mode where the ERS drives the split turbo, it's very audible on the AT when on an onboard, Honda has this mode for roughly a 1/3rd of the lap in Quali and if they are chasing down a position.Edit for clarity, the ERS is available roughly 1/3 lap to deploy, the full Maximum (full deploy) is roughly 7 seconds..

Awesome video too - you really can hear turbo rpm shoot up Any idea what rpm the turbo achieves at max??

Max complaining about how quick Lewis can go in the last sector. Half a second between them in that twisty final part of the circuit.
Sounded more like a compliment to me..Neither of them got a totally clean lap in P3, even if they were the fastest two cars. Plenty of time to come at the business end of qualifying, if they can keep the tyres working for the whole lap.

Ahh... So he simply had to not deploy it until towards the end to mask his true pace - makes sense.

Bottom right screen shows gear and revs, out of turn 2 he short shifts up three gears at around 10500/11000 rpm, the turbo is said to be 125k rpm. You can hear the pitch change.Awesome video too - you really can hear turbo rpm shoot up Any idea what rpm the turbo achieves at max??

Are you sure? I thought engine modes were fixed from 1st practice not the start of FP3. Sky just said that Alpine had their engine mode turned down for FP3 and expect to turn it back up for qualifying. Edit for clarity, the ERS is available roughly 1/3 lap to deploy, the full Maximum (full deploy) is roughly 7 seconds..

Here is the update for the PU situations as we are now in Parc Ferme conditions.
No further parts taken apart from Alpine, with Alonso on his 4th of 8 exhausts for the season, what are Alpine up to in there?
Hmmmm,No further parts taken apart from Alpine, with Alonso on his 4th of 8 exhausts for the season, what are Alpine up to in there?
Maybe they have found a way to burn bits of the exhaust as additional fuel...

I have not tuned into the broadcast yet, but I'm pretty sure FP3 is now Parc Ferme in 2021, I'm sure they can run varying modes in FP1/FP2, ill check the regs later tonight.
