It won races, but was not a contender until 2000.
By how many points did Irvine lose the championship in 1999?
And let's remember which team won the constructor's championship in 1999.....
The team that didn't have 12 retirements...
The team whose lead driver missed seven races through injury, and his substitute only scored in two races.
That's factually true. What's also true is that Hakkinen made a meal of that year, he should have won it by miles...

The general opinion on PH is that Hamilton is the greatest ever and it has nothing to do with Mercedes dominance for 7 years hehe
The first part possibly, the rest inaccurate because Mercedes has not been dominant for 7 years.

Assume you weren't watching/born in 2018, 2019, and not seen the races in 2021?
I guess that's a little bit like when people talk about the Ferrari dominance '00-'04, forgetting '03. Or RB '10-'13, forgetting '12.
Yep. Most people have lazy recall

Yes Mika should've, but he didn't.
Great talent no doubt.

Particularly when you post.
I see you remain obsessed with me hehe
I wouldn't say obsessed, but I think you're an invaluable part of PH from a comedy value POV and that should be recognised.
There is no bias in PH.
Keep going hehe

Hi Sparta, it is now several weeks on and I am still waiting for you to explain the link between Todt and Wolff in 1996 that you claim is so important. Please elucidate?

Not too surprising that your research didn't find anything.
It was 2006 hehe

Crofty said on the radio today he's 100% sure that Russell to Mercedes to be announced at Silverstone. I don't think they'd do Bottas dirty like that unless he's told them he's retiring.

It's not dirty if that gives him more time to find a seat.

To a degree but I wouldn't have thought they'd give it such fanfare at GRs home race etc. Seemed a bit harsh when Ferrari did it to Vettel.

I thought they simply refused to renew his contract?

Vettel didn’t like Ferrari cheating, so they didn’t offer him a new contract (gues they really need ‘team players’ when it comes to this! biggrin)

Teams have always amnounced drivers for the following season half way through the current one. Much of the time the departing driver hasn't had a choice in the matter.

If Russell has been signed Bottas will have known about it since shortly afterwards.

Based on his recent demeanour, I think he was told a few weeks ago.

Which could also explain the extra bit of zip Russell’s has of late

Well, I think based on his performance in Hungary, the Valtteri Bottas thread needs a bump.

In isolation, these things can happen in the chaos of a rain soaked start. In context, this was really poor. He fluffed the start, fluffed the first corner. The only saving grace in Mercedes view was that he managed to take out the Red Bulls doing it.
Another weekend where his stock dropped.
Also a masterclass display from Alonso in how to be a team player. He held up Hamilton who later seemed to be 2 seconds a lap faster long enough to get his team mate the win. We haven't seen Bottas manage to hold up anyone FOR Lewis in quite some time. I think the best job he did was actually ON Lewis....
