If you’ll be in the port, get a local SIM card with a big data plan. Much easier than trying to mess around with 0.5Mb ship’s satellite wifi.
F1TV is much better now from a technical perspective, after a lot of glitches when it first launched.
As far as the British GP goes, that's out, because I'm not allowed to leave this cabin, let alone the ship. I wonder if the very slow internet would manage to show a low-res picture on F1TV? I might give that a go, initial research shows it to be $9.99 per month, so I am not putting a large amount of money at risk.F1TV is much better now from a technical perspective, after a lot of glitches when it first launched.
Might help?
Now that is how to watch a grand prix!
Paulguitar, I'm in UK so can't watch the races on F1TV myself, but hoping it works out for you! I've been subscribing for a while now so I could watch the old races (unfortunately they all seem to have no commentary) and hopefully to help encourage them to stream live races in future when Sky's current exclusive contract runs out.
Thanks, folks.
I think I will give F1 TV a go and see if the slow ship internet will be able to run some kind of video.
I thought I had found an answer whilst we were docked in Miami, which was to run Sky Go on my phone via a VPN, but we are now at sea and without a cellphone connection, so that plan was scuppered. It is via the slow ship internet or nothing.

Probably stowing away under someones bunk
A young woman was very depressed and decided to end it all by throwing herself into the sea. Just as she was about to do so though, a young handsome sailor ran down to the shore and talked her out of it. “Look, you are young. There is so much you could do with you life.” said the sailor. “In fact, my ship is sailing for America in the morning. I’ll smuggle you on board and make sure you have plenty of food. If you’ll just help me pass the lonely evening hours, I will get you over to America where you can start a new life.”That sounded great to the young women who took up living secretly in a cabin on board ship. Every evening the sailor would bring her some food and the two would spend the night together.
After about a week of this though, the ship’s captain discovered the woman hiding in the sailor’s cabin. “What are you doing in here?” asked the captain. “Well, I have a deal with one of your sailors. He is smuggling me over to America, and he’s screwing me.”
“I’ll say!” replied the captain. “This is the Isle of Wight Ferry.”

I've got 2 x 27" monitors and split it with the video feed on one; PH and F1.feed.net for lap timing a circuit visulation on the other together with my F1 group email and Radio5Live on as well.
My email group has, on rare occasion, included someone at the circuit, although the service normally breaks down.
It increases the fun.
