Michael Masi should be replaced

Negotiating a penalty with a team and asking if it's acceptable is just a ludicrous state of affairs, I'm embarrassed for the sport. I think I'd get rid of that radio channel if I was Liberty.
Totally agree. 'Referees' in other sports should have the ability to apply discretion but these matters should be going straight to a panel of stewards, not negotiated with team principles. Masi is playing to the Netflix crowd for his own ego - playing judge, jury and executioner. Liberty need to remember that a large number of F1 fans tune in for good, clean racing from what should be the pinnacle of motorsport, not pantomime antics.I can probably forgive the Safety Car -> Red Flag incident: it is understandable that the barrier needed to be checked before it could be confirmed that a replacement part was required, but some of the other decisions and how they are made by Masi are now more than questionable.

The Race director needs to command the respect of the drivers and team managers in the way that Charlie Whiting did, I think Massi has lost that so if the FIA want to maintain their respect they need to replace him for next season.
They need someone with gravitas, not someone who sounds like a fresh out of university geography supply teacher who's just been put in charge of a remedial class at Borstal.I haven’t watched an F1 race for years but as it was getting down to the line I thought I would this time out. I was amazed that team bosses were negotiating about grid restart positions! Can you imagine that happening in a football World Cup final for example! Manger argues it wasn’t a penalty but I can agree to an indirect free kick, Absolutely crazy.
I'm sorry as others have said bartering on the TV world feed over restart positions has to be a new low for the sport. Masi should IMHO have given them a simple choice, accept a three place drop or see what the stewards decide. None of the this "offering" bks.
There is quite frankly far much of the teams bleating at Masi and Masi then trying to accommodate.

Lots of rose tinted glasses for Charlie. Yeah he was a nice guy but presided over enough howlers of his own and was his respect wholly earned or by dint of being backed up by Bernie?
Sure the radio channel is embarrassing and Masi isn’t very competent or anything approaching an authority, but it’s not like his forebear was infallible

Agreed, he lost control of that race yesterday, it was a complete farce at timesTeppic said:
I’d dear Charlie was still with us he’d simply have told Jonathan Wheatley that the matter was with the Stewards and they would make a decision. There would be none of this “offer” bks.
Don't know why this is such a fuss. No difference to asking a driver to give the place back else the stewards deal with it.dh00065p said:

I recall plenty of driver briefing clips where Charlie was queries very heavily by drivers. The difference now is that we hear the team/FIA calls during the race.Don't confuse awareness of issues with there being no issues.

It's just we never heard it before.Liberty/FoM will cherry pick messages to either add to the drama or provoke a reaction, hence why we don't really hear much other than Red Bull/Mercedes. All the other teams will be moaning to Masi.
The same would have happened with Charlie, but because they weren't being broadcast no one knew!
