Don't why you're getting all worked up about Masi, he hasn't consistently applied the rules all season.
Oh that’s alright then.

My belief, Masi has a hot line to Liberty and every now and then they call it, they obviously did it this time, it seems silly to totally change your view so obviously, the desperation of the teams notwithstanding he car either get a wave around or they dont, it is that simple, it has been going on in NASCAR for decades and other forms of racing, this was farcical regardless of the result, questions have to be asked about the man after this,

His approach to safety is superb, but his approach to applying race direction and all that goes with it needs a review clearly as this looked comical and orchestrated

If he's there next year I'm not sure whether I'd be surprised or not.

Masi needs more support. As Martin Brundle said, Charlie Whiting had Herbie Blash.adi needs at least one right hand man, and check and control if nothing else.

How the heck can a desire to “let them race” get translated into negating a 12sec lead + a pit stop for new soft tyres?

Why not simply declare that he is handing the race to Max.

In the past we have seen races finish under waved yellows. Clearly the guy in under a lot of pressure, but for the championship to be allowed to end like this shows there needs to be a complete rethink about his role.

In the GP thread yesterday I said I could see in time Vettel replacing him and would be a great choice. But for now Masi hasn’t done enough/anything personally wrong for him to go. Hopefully lessons will be learnt from yesterday and move on.
Quoting myself from August.

He’s done enough. Infact far too much.

Just go ffs.

Masi has been poor all season. Whether he needs assistance or not, he’s been a clusterf**k all from the get-go. I feel sorry for the guy but clearly there are other elements at work.

I don’t believe the footage between the teams needs to be broadcast, nor should the teams have the option. This has clearly led to the st show we presently have.

The rules clearly state "once the last lapped car has passed the leader the safety car will return to the pits at the end of the following lap

NOT let the cars between 1st and 2nd place pass then the safety car dives into the pits on the same lap furious

I’ve defended him on this thread, but today was a fundamental failure.

Seems like a slam dunk, doesn't it?
I think either Lewis or Max would have been a deserving champion this year, but not in this way.

This! Should have never got this far.

Either process followed properly (from my armchair expert position) seems to suggest Lewis wins the race.

Masi has not had a good year, for sure.

Something needs to be done about the way team principles treat the race director, though. It's unacceptable.

Wolff was on the radio telling him not to send out a safety car - attempting to influence safety protocol because it's a disadvantage to your team should be punished. They should be allowed to make their case when an incident happens but the deployment of a safety car is well outside of where they should be involved. Points penalties should be dished out for pulling this st.

Finishing under waved yellows would not have been acceptable for the Latifi accident

It would have been better to just finish it under the safety car rather than the mess that was only letting the cars in between 1st and 2nd past on the same lap as the safety car's in-lap, or if a final few lap showdown was wanted just red flag the damn race and create a five lap sprint for the flag.

Virtual SC could have sorted the Williams. It wasn’t too far away from a gap in the tyres.

It had two corners of suspension off and it was on fire

ETA: ok I was mixing it up with the Raikkonen crash from practice. Latifi had 4 wheels pointing in the same direction. But it was perpendicular to the track, there was debris everywhere and the whole thing was covered in extinguisher powder.

That is not what spectators pay to see. Once the track is clear, the safety car should go, and racing should re-commence. People don't pay to see a race finish behind a safety car.

And you can't just change the rules as you go along, and extend the race and create a sprint race (which wouldn't have changed the result). Oh hang on, Masi does just keep changing the rules as he goes along!

The title of this thread has never been more apt though. Masi should be clearing the contents of his desk into a cardboard box right now!

Sack him before next season. He's been the most influential figure this season, constantly not upholding rules and not following regs. Stuttering, delaying, even NEGOTIATING penalities. It's been a long time since I've seen someone so out of his depth. He's completely lost control. He never had control. This is not how F1 has ever worked.
