Out of his depth is right. He was over-promoted.

A point of order, because I’m annoying

He has never negotiated a penalty.

The rules clearly state "once the last lapped car has passed the leader the safety car will return to the pits at the end of the following lap

NOT let the cars between 1st and 2nd place pass then the safety car dives into the pits on the same lap furious
I just got back from the circuit, and thought I’d watch the highlights before commenting.

We thought the procedure was rushed for “the show”, but hadn’t realised that the instruction was only given to half of the lapped cars to overtake, and hadn’t realised there was an original decision was for lapped cars to not overtake. To be honest, after a couple of laps of the SC we expected a red flag, to give a “Baku Sprint” finish once they’d cleaned up the mess.

Masi is bang to rights for a breach of 48.12, and the FIA are going to have an almighty problem working out what to do about it. He was making things up as he went along, when there are a specific set of rules he needs to follow.

Just about the only possibility is to curtail the race by two laps, and declare the result on the positions behind the SC. But that overturns the drivers’ championship, for something that isn’t the fault of the champion - which is quite the mess they’ve got themselves into.

Also LOL to find out that Mercedes bought their lawyer with them. This has a CAS case written all over it.

Anyone else think Masi has something of the John Bercow about him? Just as the very first post said, it feels like he rather wanted to step into the limelight although I wonder if now regrets this.

I was doubtful of Masi's abilities and judgement before today but it's now clear he values spectacle over regulation and therefore, I agree, he should go.

I wonder how fast Charlie is rotating in his grave?

Masi should have his name alongside Verstappen on the trophy as co-driver. Utter disgraceful way to end.

I actually think that's a bit unfair on Bercow.

It would be interesting to know how Charlie interacted with the teams during the race.

I think moving forward they need to nominate a single person in the team to be able to communicate with the Race Director and stop the team principals from joining in. Toto’s petulant outbursts today were totally cringeworthy.

Perhaps they also stop allowing us to listen in to the team / FIA Comms as well

Agree - it’s yet another soapbox for whining teams to make public points.

To me it seemed like he was getting orders from someone else today.

Like he came on the radio and said to Redbull that the lapped cars would not be let unlap themselves, then 30 seconds later he reverses that decision? Almost like someone got on the phone to him and said we want a grandstand finish!

Masi sounds like an utter gimp. For that alone, he should be sacked.

Masi should go for no other reason than thinking that one car with 45 lap old hard tyres vs a car with brand new softs is in some sort of 'race'

but lets not forget Charlie was prone the occasional gaff ...the biggest gaff being recommending Masi as his successor

That was a stitch up if I ever seen one. Sad day for f1.
That was LHs win hands down. FIA decided that they would orchestrate drama and it’s torn their credibility to pieces.

Any shred of faith or trust the teams and drivers had left in Michael Masi evaporated in the farcical scenes this Afternoon. The teams must demand he either resign or be replaced.

Whoever made the final decision knew they were also deciding the title, that or they were just plain stupid. No one should be able to make that call,

Merc reacted as if the regs would be followed, they were not as I understand it..

I think the words were "my offer to you is for Max to move to P3", or something of that ilk? Last week, during the Red flag.

If that isn't negotiating a penalty...

It’s only a negotiation if Red Bull say no, counter and Masi then barters. They didn’t and he didnt.

Look at my Police/speeding analogy on the previous pages.

If you’re offered a speed awareness course rather than points, are the Police ‘negotiating’ your punishment?

The worst thing to come out of MM's actions in Saudi and Abu Dhabi is the number of people who don't know what "barter" means.
