Driver61 has made a great video on this. Mercedes is rear-limited and Red Bull is front-limited which explains the difference in the types of corners on the last two tracks. He was inconclusive on the wing. Personally I think it is the wing .. but you'd have to be an Adrian Newey or James Allison to know all the little tricks that give an incremental edge on every straight and corner!

Did you get that nugget of 'truth' from Horner?

I can't divulge my sauces for gastronomic reasons. There was also a Cadburys Whisper that Lewis was whistling a tuneless tune at the same time - which may answer the question raised about a "strange noise" in another Fred.

Next year the straight is to be named "Emperor Hamilton Boulevard" btw.

You're assuming correlation equals causation Jim.

I've not actually happened upon speed trap data for Qatar, can you share it?
Straightly speed was commented on by RB in the post race interview and was said to be very similar or words to that effect.

I have no reason to believe they would lie about that, considering it was a point of conjecture last time they lost.

I am sorry but that is funny.

You are ready to assume that no team principal would be willing to use data selectively, exaggerate, or outright lie to support their own preconceived notions about a competitor or to influence outward perception?

...and you're making this assumption in relation to Christian Horner in particular?

Sorry but this is a failure of critical thought. You cannot take anything any team principal choses to say publically about their observations concerning a competitor seriously.

There exists a procedure by which a competitor can protest a car which they do not believe is legal.

Statements to the press shall rightly be considered 'noise'.
When I watch a Horner TV interview I try to identify all the lies during it. There are always multiple ones.

Some samples:

Nobody overtakes on the inside going into Copse.
It was a racing incident or hard racing
Max missed a single yellow flag (it was waved double flags)

His comment about speed differential is clearly a lie, the top speeds at different parts of the circuits are published, nowhere has there been that speed differential.

The speed differential he quoted was I think on one race lap, where Lewis was directly behind Max - with the DRS open on the Mercedes.

At best, it’s a highly misleading use of statistics.

Peak top speed on the straight is an interesting stat, but is there any data for the speed throughout the whole length of the straight?

Ending up at similar peaks in the speed trap doesn't show how fast you got there

Its obvious all year that Mercedes can run a barn door wing size at the same speed that Red Bull can only achieve by trimming their cars like a dart.

It is extremely suspicious that they’ve made their car fastest over the whole lap. It’s almost like the whole point of the sport is to be fastest overall.
Almost like the rules don't count?
Which rules have been broken?
Like the rules Ferrari didn't break?
So, you're saying that because Ferrari broke the rules 2 years ago, Mercedes must be now?

By that logic, Red Bull must also be cheating now because the Renault team did in 2009.

Your 'evidence' is all speculation. If RB had something substantial, they'd be protesting it through the official channels. Horner just wants Mercedes' car looked at as closely as possible to try and find something like the Brazil infringement that got Hamilton banned from sprint qualifying at Interlagos.

Merc v Red Bull speed is a stupid discussion when Ferrari powered cars made them both look stupid in the top speed/across the line stakes

I accept completely that’s actually inconvenient for the conspiracy theories Emanating from Milton Keynes but hey there you go

Well I never... laugh

The trouble is, all the time the interviewers don't hold his statements to account, they quickly become established as facts by those who take what he says at face value and don't look at the raw data. It's tough for the interviewer because they don't know what he's going to come out with but I'd love someone like Brundle to be in a position to be able to challenge him at the Sky Pad or whatever. "Lewis was 27kph faster" "Where was that then Christian? We've got the times here lets have a look at the data...."

I have to take my hat off to Horner he's doing a terrific job.

I have heard from a reliable sauce at Mercedes HPp that they were running on 4 cylinders and using Tesco 95ron unleaded.

I have heard from a source in Milton Keynes that Mercedes' recent form is due to some special new magnets they've installed on the fuel lines.

Update: Confirmed - Lewis has developed a "Diddgerydoo-Duct" circular breathing technique to create a vacuum that he drives into. Hence the new, "tastes like fresh, but not at the price of fresh" astonishing pace.

Is there no limit to the boundaries that are pushed? Leaves me breathless!!

I have reliable information, it came from the wife of a cousin of the brother in law of a cleaner at MB that the reason Hamilton is faster in the hybrid cars is that he is really a battery.
