What separates the excellent from the elite?

Yes the excellent (or jammy) just won a Championship thanks to Michael Masi - but that doesn't make Max part of the elite, just incredibly lucky.
The fact he won more races and led more laps this year than anybody else just passed you by did it. Either Lewis OR Max would have been worthy winners of this years title.....if the race hadn't ended in controversy and Max had of eased to victory literally NOBODY would be saying it was a lucky title or he wasn't elite.I think there are quite a few elite level competitors in F1.....all the way down the grid......and some that aren't drivers too!

He did not 'win' more races, he was gifted two wins (Spa and Abu Dhabi), so they are tied on 8 each. He did lead a lot more laps than anybody else, agreed. Max has had a lot of support from the stewards this year to enable his title, so yes, it was an early Christmas gift. No way is he 'elite', he should have had it wrapped up with 2 races to go if he really was elite.I think there are quite a few elite level competitors in F1.....all the way down the grid......and some that aren't drivers too!

Do me a favour and don’t comment on F1 until you actually can say anything other than drivel.

Righty o, so in your parallel universe where they won eight each (ignore max’s tyre failure from the lead in Baku too) but anyway. So he lead more laps than anyone else added together and took the same amount of wins as the greatest driver of all time but he’s not one of the elite.

Someone needs a hug. Do me a favour and don’t comment on F1 until you actually can say anything other than drivel.

He’s not elite yet, just one championship battle isn’t enough. But on your other point, where in the season was Max going to eke out an additional 44 (over Lewis) points before the Saudi GP?

To be fair though, a championship is run over a season, so he wasn't actually thrashed.
This season came down to a one race shootout. It was marketed as such. Max flat spotted his mediums in qualifying, crumbled under pressure at the start despite stickier tyres and a car that was clearly best at getting off the line all season, tried and failed to pass Hamilton by running him off the track, had a cheap VSC pit stop and benefited from a teammate blocking the track. He was a thrashed as it is possible to be thrashed. Max knows it.Volvolover said:
Quite happy for Max to be voted number 1. That’ll be a poll where all the votes are added up and the person with the most votes wins. Unlike last weekend….Volvolover said:
Not at all. The rules were correctly followed and a winner was declared on that basis.Maybe they should try that with the drivers' championship?
