A fair point. The law of the land applies always.
It would be argued that the driver made the final decision to race I think though. Even if it's not a successful argument.
You can't interview a dead driver. I always have that in mind when I build a racing car and run it, and in the past have turned a car off in the pits and refused to let it on track despite the driver shouting at me, because he wouldn't let me fit his belts properly. You have to be able to back up your work in court. It would be argued that the driver made the final decision to race I think though. Even if it's not a successful argument.

If they dish out penalties it proves that this track isn’t fit for purpose, if someone does die in the race do the FIA get done for manslaughter
Oh come on, that was all on Bono who had a brain fart twice. Every one else managed fine. Adrian W said:

Oh come on, that was all on Bono who had a brain fart twice. Every one else managed fine. Not an expert on the rules surrounding this, does he have to have PASSED the yellow flag? Or is it set in stone that he must abandon the lap if the yellow flag is in the distance?
Also - I thought the flags were relayed to the steering wheel displays, didn't notice that in the onboard footage, does that only happen when the car reaches the first trackside flag?

On a traditional flag rules system, the flag is active at the point of the flag marshal post (this applies for start (yellow) of the section to the end (green) of a flag section). With the light board and onboard dash system it's done via each sector, the start of that sector could be before the marshal post. Also - I thought the flags were relayed to the steering wheel displays, didn't notice that in the onboard footage, does that only happen when the car reaches the first trackside flag?
