Bernie tended to manipulate the direction of the sport an smooth out political issues rather than directly fiddle with something as granular as Alonso getting a penalty. Why would Sulayem risk exposing himself for being inclined to try adjust race results for something relatively unimportant? The answer is most likely that it's something of a habit..

I find it very hard to believe this is a one off. Hopefully more will come out, although there's sadly a good chance he'll get away with this somehow and it'll all be swept under the rug.

Allegedly he interfered in the 2023 Saudi Arabia race and overturned Alonso's penalty.
The sport's always been bent, nothing's changed.
Not sure it even qualifies as a sport any more TBH. More entertainment package / sports washing opportunity
Absolutely this ^^^^

Entertainment. Thats all it is now. AD21 confirmed it and with every passing race since, just confirming that.

Bernie wasn't any part of the rule makers or enforcers post the EU ruling, he was the commercial rights holder.
People get the two areas mixed up all the time.

MBS is special, and not in a good way.

I'm surprised that anyone's surprised, it's not like the FIA don't have form for having power junky whack jobs in high places

Does he own RB shares and is trying to hold up the value of the company by distracting everyone, given his 3 attempts in the last few days to distract from RB and Horner?

Actually more seriously, are we likely to see a bunch of random F1 dirty laundry appear as any old random secret is leaked to try and distract from the main story?

Anyone checked the FIA website to see if they have the result of next Saturdays Saudi GP.

Maybe it’s like cricket and spread betting ?

Which driver will get a grid drop?

Or which lap will the safety car come out ?

Will Alonso get a penalty ?

Or who will win the drivers championship - anyone but Hamilton ? !

It can only be good that the mainstream media appear to be catching on to it. He might want to keep his head down a bit for a while so we don't have to see him posing on the podium presenting trophies.

Interestingly, Joe Saward mentions there are actually 2 complaints lodged, not just the Alonso situation...

Must be worrying times for Liberty. All the wrong noises coming from the sport. If you were a potential sponsor or investor, the last few weeks have done nothing but damage.

In fairness they’re part responsible for the mess that is modern F1. It’s now nothing more than a big expensive travelling circus (more similar to wrestling in terms of ‘sport’’) where dodgy rich people/states sport wash their money in a cartel style anti-competition set up.

The thing is, it's always been that way to an extent - it's a huge commercial entity in addition to a sport so that brings the influence of money with it, and money has always been used to buy on track and off track advantages or changes within the sport - IE back when the sport was desperate for new teams and terrified of losing existing teams, Merc pretty much entered on condition the upcoming engine regs would go their chosen way and include mgu-h, which having failed as a road car solution they recently used as a bargaining chip again, initially blocking porsche entrance by refusing to agree to let it go. These things have always gone on but it's money being used to manipulate the regs in advance of the sport actually getting underway on the circuit, or money being used to force the creation of entire new GP's even...

But now we see power and influence directly, habitualy, sticking it's hand in and directly influencing outcomes in real time. That's the limit for me, it's too much. I don't care if money sets the rules as it's then the same rules for everyone - but money dictating his the races and seasons themselves play out...!? That's a problem.

It's not just a problem for viewers either, it's a problem for F1 as its essentially trading the lifeblood of 'the show', the underlaying sport, for the sake of a little extra contrived excitement and competition. Long term such behaviour is very likely to remove more value than it might temporarily be considered to add.

Bernie was so close to Max though that I doubt many things happened without him at least having sight of them.
