Interesting that there's a line which states that other officials present have a different recollection of the events in question. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

The other accusation in JS piece is how MBS has expensed a private jet to the FIA.

"It is not clear why Ben Sulayem would wish for FIA officials to refuse to certify the Las Vegas track."

Possibly because he has worked to get UAE on the motorsport map, made the AD circuit his pet project and is looking towards Qiddiya which is billed to be the 'entertainment capital of the world' and has billions of his mates money pointed at.

I can imagine why he might be thinking a a GP in the actual (actually exists..) entertainment capital of the world might work against his interests. Or his leaders.

All speculation.

Can this inquiry actually yield any results? Probably not if the only other people in the room when the instruction was reportedly given, have already claimed they have no recollection of it.

It's a mess and it's fascinating. Nobody wants their name mentioned alongside prince Andrew either.

It's like the world series, champions of their own limited domain.

It was predictable someone would take that as an opportunity to ignore context and instead share an entirely personal and therefore irrelevant view about Las Vegas.

The F1 world has been out to get MBS since he was elected; he's not one of their own, he's from another motorsport, and they can't stand that. Funny that other FiA series don't have an issue with him......only F1....

I suspect if DR had won, they'd have been equally unhappy - though he did have a short time in F1......

Hardly, he is a disaster all round, the WRC is a shambles.

MBS has chosen to be an F1 we, he makes sure he is on camera at every event. You hardly ever saw Todt at the races, Max was pretty low profile too until some ststorm peaked his interest.

The bloke should be in Paris or Geneva doing his job, or visiting the smaller governing bodies to help them build the sport in their areas, not being on the podium at every F1 race giving out bullst medals.

Maybe he's there to be seen, as a presence in the sport that mirrors the very high price the UAE pays for the sport?

Jokes, he probably would have got the job anyway.. Perfect candidate really.

That's because only F1 is worth anything - the rest, including the WRC, are just minor st. WRC is so irrelevant I can't even find which channel it's broadcast on in the UK. It seems even Sky don't want it since BT Sport went tits up.

It's on the renamed channels TNTSports, and also on discovery+

Coverage this year is significantly better, the competition is pretty st though, the champion can't even be arsed to do a full season programme.

there are some things so naff the judgement abandons the usual issues of personal taste and preference and becomes entirely quantitative.

I feel massively sorry for him actually. This is clearly just a power play, with someone powerful out to get him. As a result even if he’s been a wee bit naughty I think all the focus should be on how he is a victim and the person leaking this to the media is a nasty piece of work. It’s all just a witch hunt with a nasty mob after him. Just ignore what he’s done because it’s all about the person on the other side of the power play.

Isn’t that how this works again?

This is the circuit MBS is flogging then?

Interesting that Fernando is putting out this sort of PR piece.
