So far I don't have a positive impression of MBS.

I do not make a habit of keeping abreast of what the FIA president is up to, and Todt was practically invisible to the F1 reporting press.

He immediately pissed me off when he first came into the role by releasing the FIA statements about the conclusion of the 2021 championship which appeared to insult the intelligence of, and even blame the viewing public.

MBS so far has appeared to be a jobsworth picking up on small details which are of no consequence to the sport. There have been a lot of column inches about the 'underwear and piercings' thing. It is a small battle MBS has decided to busy himself with- and it's not going well. Drivers are publicly humouring the situation, at least one driver is actively protesting it and refusing to comply, and the enforcement of the rule has now been repeatedly postponed which looks like a concession from MBS.

Combined with MBS decision to penalise Hamilton and Mercedes for not appearing at the coronation, people have speculated that MBS is targeting Hamilton.

Meanwhile, in relation to the 2021 conclusion and race administration errors since, MBS is just as invisible as Todt was.

I had no strong feelings about Todt as an FIA president, however I'm finding the public actions of MBS quite aggravating. I am not convinced that he is engaging with or even acknowledging the big issues. There is an elephant in the room and MBS is re-painting the skirting boards.

Todt was very laid back and quietly happy about the Mercedes dominance years.

I'm yet to notice any bias from MBS towards any team or driver as the rules being tightened up apply equally to everyone.

Didn't MBS grant Ham a period of grace regarding the bling thing ?

Lewis' nose stud is a single solid piece of platinum, he can't remove it before he gets in the car so IIRC he's been given a two race reprieve for that item.

I think MBS has shown himself to be anti-Merc and more importantly anti-transparency from day one. His statement about the Abu Dhabi debacle was an insult to drivers and fans, and the report into what went wrong was dragged out until the day before the new season IIRC.

There's more to being FIA boss than F1, but his focus on trivia like jewellery doesn't impress me.

I cannot fathom why the rules have not been pored over to minimise further ambiguity that undermined the sport last season. Not making the the rules clear cut and having questionable/debatable decisions because they can be misinterpreted/taken advantage of creates a potentially disruptive dialogue/influences results that keeps F1 on peoples' lips for the wrong reasons - but maybe that is the idea and they do not care...

I just read that the grace period for HAM has been extended to end of June - all things considered that seems fair.

It's remarkable that Todt turned a blind eye to Ham's blatant infringement for so long. I say blatant as the infringement is placed on his face, yet Todt failed to bother. Says a lot about Todt.

In case we forget;
“The wearing of jewellery during the competition can hinder both medical interventions as well as subsequent diagnosis and treatment should it be required following an accident,” new F1 race director Niels Wittich said.

MBS = Anti-Merc ? Really ? RUS is having a solid debut season.

I would suggest MBS is busy attaching skirting board too the elephant to ensure it becomes part of the room……

So it bothers you just as much they awarded the championship to a driver that blatantly infringed the jewellery rule as well with his nipple piercing?

Hmmm, there are many things you could say about Jean Todt but lazy is not one of them.

Let’s look at his records

World Rally winning co driver
Team boss Peugeot Sport, double manufacturers and drivers championship
Multiple Dakar winner
World sport cars champion
Ferrari F1 boss, turned it from a laughing stock to the dominant force of the early 00s
Boss of the FIA, removed a lot of the controversy’s so loved by his Not Nazi predecessor.

He’s not lazy, more like a very high achiever.

High proficiency is easily mistaken for low effort by the less perceptive

As FIA President Todt was not paying attention to upholding driver safety rules.

WTF are you talking about? There were many safety measures and improvements made in F1 in the Todt era.

Aren't all rules to be upheld, or just some rules ?

Do explain why Todt turned a blind eye to Ham's blatant infringement for years.

I seriously doubt anyone even considered it to be any kind of issue. Christ, the world really is turning into a snowflake fest.

Because Masi hadn't gifted a WDC* at the time?
