That was a quick two week.
Sorry to see him go. The grid will be less fun with him gone, but I understand why.
He’s only being replaced for FP1Sorry to see him go. The grid will be less fun with him gone, but I understand why.
I wonder how his simulator times compare with others’?
Where did the rumour that he has two races left come from? I'd have thought he'd be given to the summer break regardless - might as well give him the time to sort his act out, and there is no real reason to need to give his replacement more than half a season to prove their own worth either.
Or 'if' he really has been given just two races, why pull him from a practice session? The fact they have done the latter makes me question the former being true..

Being - allegedly - given 2 races to shape up, and then denied a critical piece of running, rather suggests the writing’s on the wall.

Or they simply want to use one of the two mandatory young-driver FP1 sessions to run their two Japanese drivers in Japan. Doing something positive for the young Japanese driver they have on their books rather than being deliberately negative to Daniel.I wonder how his simulator times compare with others’?
I like DR but i think the issue is more his make up compared to others. He comes across as a likeable guy and i think thats his problem. Others who are undoubtedly better come across as more aloof and serious, he doesn't. I think that is what is missing now especially after the Mclaren saga with Lando handing it to him on a plate.
Sad as it is, I think its time for him to go.

I think it was already planned to run him at japan on P1 and the press are spinning a story…It certainly won’t help DR improve his crappy performances this year missing P1 at Suzuka in a not very good car.
Out in Q3 again probably !

According to his team, his simulator times are strong - which is why he got a drive, in addition to a string showing at the RBR filming day. If his simulator times are above average and his solo drive was as competitive as CH claims, then it starts to suggest it's pressure of competitive performance that sees him fall off. But who knows...
It could just as easily be that the simulator doesn’t correlate well, especially not modelling adequately the nuances of the aero (if the teams can’t get to grips with controlling it in real life, why should their modelling inform especially accurate simulations?). And maybe DR is somebody who takes a while to dial himself in (meaning that if the car doesn’t match the simulator he’s a bit at sea)? The fact he impressed in the RBR, but isn’t in the RB, may tell us something, too. Some have observed that Perez has struggled trying to drive a setup optimised around Max. What was DR driving - a “Max” setup, or a “Perez” setup?
If it turns out DR is the only other guy who can drive a “Max” car, that could be nonetheless useful to RBR. And maybe he just isn’t good at communicating what he wants to the team?
Many many variables at play here.

Probably Bild… thegreenhell said:

Daniel has put himself in the is situation and the army of Aussie fans who defended him to the hilt have gone quiet. Mainly because they have a new driver to support but some have realised Daniel is a has been.

Does it matter what they are though? By this time, Ricciardo has had ample opportunity to prove that he can still deliver on race weekends. Rather obviously he's failed to do that convincingly. How well he may or may not be able to do on the sim is somewhat of a moot point as he just can't do it when it really matters..... isaldiri said:

Exactly and he’s done enough races now to show he’s having trouble.asfault said:
Also Yuki is the better chance of points scores so why take his car away from him?

That must mess with his head too - turning up at his home GP to be confronted with a wall of orange clad fans supporting someone else.Daniel has put himself in the is situation and the army of Aussie fans who defended him to the hilt have gone quiet. Exactly and he’s done enough races now to show he’s having trouble. If you’re paying DR a large chunk of money, you want to figure out how to unlock his ability - at least I would.

Nobody really knows how he did in that test against Verstappen's time because it was done on a different day in different conditions when nobody else was driving to provide an accurate benchmark. RBR will be able to correct that to an extent to account for the conditions, but it's pretty meaningless unless it was done in the same session on the same day under the same pressure. As it is it was just a headline to validate their own argument for bringing him back in.

Apparently he just doesn’t get on with the current ground effect cars, not much you can do about that
Adapt? That's what other drivers have done. There's been too much excuse-making and car-blaming for me to have any respect for DR now. The point has been made that he saw off Seb (who struggled subsequently so who knows where he was at by that point) and compared well to Max (who was a near-rookie that was quick but prone to doing daft things). Notwithstanding the observations in brackets there, if you're going to blame the car for your bad days you have to accept that your good days are also outside your control. You can't have it both ways.
The excuses - many on social media from heavily biased Aussie fans, who run Kubica's from his poor Williams years pretty close for their lack of F1 understanding - for his time at McLaren were embarrassing. "He was coming into Lando's team and the car was designed around Lando", we were told. That was swiftly disproved when the team had to use a clean sheet of paper for 2022 and he was even further off the pace. "He doesn't drive well in the GE cars" now. Well, that's fine: if you can't cut it in the current F1 cars, perhaps you simply don't belong in F1. I'm with others here, it's incomprehensible that he got the seat ahead of Lawson this year.
I’d just say that (more as an explanation than an excuse) these drivers are so close to the cutting edge that just changing your inherent driving style to suit a different type of car is beyond what even they can do. It has to be instinctive, once they’re consciously adapting it’s all too artificial I should imagine.
Just look at how Peres struggled with the Red Bull?
Another race weekend, another disaster. Out qualified and out scored by Yuki, sleepwalked into another driver after the second corner…
If there’s three tiers of drivers in F1 with the cream of the crop like Max, Charles and Lewis, then your solid journeymen like Gasly, Perez and Saintz, poor Daniel is rapidly heading towards the bottom tier where you’d be considering how much coin he brings as to whether you’d have him or Logan in the seat.
Wvwn the Aussies have lost interest in him and think he should go according to a mate over there.
