It's an interesting question. Reminds me of a friend who was a real high flyer with a big international bank. We had a long lunch in Canary Wharf one day to celebrate his latest promotion. He confessed to me that he was earning tons of money, kept getting promoted and yet he didn't feel he was up to the level of expectation that the corporate world had of him. He couldn't quite understand how he'd got to that point. But he said he could never articulate that and would never show it as it simply wasn't done to show any kind of weakness in the armour in that kind of intense high pressure high stress environment.
Anyway he kept moving up the food chain and eventually retired at 50. Lives on a boat now and is very happy with life with zero pressure, he's certainly a lot more jolly these days! I always say to him that he singlehandedly caused the 2008 financial crisis!
In every area of life there are those who are just extremely adept at making others perceive they are far better than they actually are. I'm sure we all know a few. Even if they know it themselves, the front has to be maintained to sustain the income and lifestyle.

Ricciardo's decline is a shame for the sport, he used to be such an exciting driver to watch. Very much instinct based and driving on feel more than a technical approach which I assume is his undoing when the car does not suit his natural style.
I don't agree that he is out of F1 at the end of this year, all it takes is him to make a move to say Aston Martin when Seb goes this year (assuming the rumblings are correct), to click with the car and then we can start seeing him drive like he used to again.
While his time at Mclaren has been poor, I feel that had he gone to Ferrari last year over Carlos we would have seen a very different Daniel possibly the very best and even on par with Leclerc for race pace.

I doubt that. The pressure and expectation at Ferrari and by the Italian media is of a complete different level to McLaren. If Lando has obliterated him Charles would have done worse. Remember Vettel in 2019?SturdyHSV said:
It's surely because his media demeanour is a persona, a mock over confident act, which he has maintained his whole career.
I'd imagine the reality of the situation is he doesn't actually know how to be miserable / himself in public, because the Ricciardo "I'm so funny and fun and so handsome and so great aren't I hilarious and so good looking ha ha" is all he's ever done, and to finally admit that publically would effectively shatter his entire 'brand'.
My personal bet is the guy is really quite miserable and has no way of communicating it publically, which is probably quite isolating and lonely. Hopefully he has friends that are friends with whoever he 'really is' as opposed to the fun time joker BS persona the rest of the world has to endure.
This post seems a bit spiteful, and odd really? Wife got the hots for Danny or something? Remember Vettel in 2019?Ferrari is the opposite of that and always has been. You have to hit the ground running, which Sainz did last year. The minute you fall behind you are the no.2 driver.

To be fair to Daniel the car is a bit crap and clearly it seems more geared towards lando
Lando deals with the understeer better than Ric, that is true. But I do not see Ric overcoming Lando even if he does get to grips with the driving style required to eke out the best from tha Macca. I rate Lando highly. Along with Max, Russell and, to a slightly lesser extent, Charles, we should witness some great battles unfold over the next few seasons if the cars are close (Liberties permitting). The emergence of these fast youngsters who are delivering on track has highlighted several established drivers as yesterday's men.
Ricciardo is popular with fans but nowhere near as popular as Lando who I believe sells the most merchandise of any driver. So if he's delivering the results and is the most popular driver on the grid there isn't much case for keeping Ric.

Fans in the past just liked everyone and never complained.
This is definitely not the case. But now we have online forums and they seem to attract people that have endless time to discuss something they don't like, don't watch and who they don't like if they do watch.
