With Lando's car issues today I genuinely thought it was a chance for Ricciardo to put in a good quali and get ahead of him. I was wrong.

Whatever he had, however good he once was, it clearly isn't there any more.

Yep. Just plain weird though to see such a strong and relatively young driver go off the boil though. That's the chief reason I keep hoping it's just circumstantial - because it simply makes no sense that his talent deserted him in the night.

However, hopeful as I wish to be, I'm also a realist. It's been a long on stretch of uselessness now..

I still think he'll be driving in F1 next season though, unless he chooses to go that is. Perhaps not at McLaren but I can see him being offered a seat due to sheer popularity and PR, and sponsorship interest too of course. That won't last forever, but I'm not sure his 'value' is all used up just yet.

When he and Seb both went out today I thought we are seeing the end of both careers in real time.

Or the car just does not suit his style. In the Red Bulls he was on the brakes 50ft after everyone else.....

Zak Brown has stated that DR will continue until the end of his contract in 2023... & he won’t be sacked before then. scratchchin

Absolutely he was - crap drivers can't make good cars work as well as great drivers, and for a time DR was in the top 3 or 4 . I saw him in F3 and it was obvious he was somebody special even then. But the guy I watched at Becketts , Copse and Village last week could have been a different driver. Poor guy.

I think his positive attitude has taken a beating recently and he needs to find the way up again. Mental strength is a huge facet in extracting 10 tenths.

Doesn't help that he has a car he cannot fathom how to extract the best from and a team mate that has found how to, and is IMHO a better driver.

In each post session interview he doesn’t even sound bothered now, like he’s totally given up.

In some circumstances he was good on the brakes and pulled off overtakes, though many were of the ‘move or crash’ variety. Found the ‘last of the late brakers’ title a bit annoying as in reality this was based on not that many moves as if he was always doing something amazing.

Were you saying that at the time, I wonder , or enjoying some brilliant moves , as I was? I suggest the wisdom of hindsight . Nobody wins 8 Grands Prx who isn't pretty damn good . And if memory serves, Mark Hughes , who knows his stuff. rated him in the top three of the 2014 season

I think he will end up racing over in America next year McLaren would have to be mental to keep him another year.

Shows how Mclaren have lost all hunger and desire from the Ron Dennis days and are now happy being a midfield outfit.

You only have to see the way Brown acted after the Monza fluke to realise how far Mclaren have fallen.

Unless DR has a get out clause... & leaves by mutual consent.
He can’t be enjoying himself, similar to Sebs situation.
( So officially... he won’t be sacked). scratchchin

NB: Shame really, as with the new regulations, just hoping that McLaren could have become the dark horses.
