Zak Brown has stated that DR will continue until the end of his contract in 2023... & he won’t be sacked before then.
Shows how Mclaren have lost all hunger and desire from the Ron Dennis days and are now happy being a midfield outfit. You only have to see the way Brown acted after the Monza fluke to realise how far Mclaren have fallen.
I was a huge fan on the Ron Dennis era - but Zak runs the team in a very different manor and its certainly at the right end of the field again.
...Which relating it back to the Danny Ric. topic makes things look even worse for him at the moment.

In some circumstances he was good on the brakes and pulled off overtakes, though many were of the ‘move or crash’ variety. Found the ‘last of the late brakers’ title a bit annoying as in reality this was based on not that many moves as if he was always doing something amazing.
Were you saying that at the time, I wonder , or enjoying some brilliant moves , as I was? I suggest the wisdom of hindsight . Nobody wins 8 Grands Prx who isn't pretty damn good . And if memory serves, Mark Hughes , who knows his stuff. rated him in the top three of the 2014 season I think in a car that suits him, he's very good, as seen in the Red Bull. Not as quick as Max but a decent driver, late on the brakes and eager to get ahead.
Perhaps he's not particularly adaptable. There's been many drivers with that trait over the years. This weekend for instance the brakes on the McLaren were pretty bad (I assume it wasn't just Norris that had that problem) and so it's just another thing that Ricciardo is unable to use.

.
I may have rose tinted specs, but I seem to think that he was generally faster than Max.. Just Max had all the RB support... Let's not forget Baku eh?!?!.

Herta is testing last years McLaren at Portimao tomorrow
From watching him a fair bit in Indycar, No doubt about him being fast, but he is far to much of a hit head. Punching the steering wheel and shouting at his pit crew when things don’t go his way. O’Ward seams a better driver to my eyes and listens to his pit crew.J6542 said:

F1TV also said Piastri does seem to be in negotiations with McLaren. Which I think we would all love to see happen.cgt2 said:

In terms of O'Ward v Herta, based upon what I have seen in Indycar I cannot decide who is the "better" driver. As he is a US citizen I can see the potential sponsorship and coverage appeal of Herta to F1, but in terms of driver performance I cannot call it.
Both Indycar drivers have superlicence points to accrue before F1 is a possibility.
As has already been written, if Brown brings Herta to F1 over his already-contracted O'Ward, that could make for a parting of the ways at AMSP.

He had Hulk beaten in the Renault from halfway through his first season and all the way through the second.
He was also ahead of Max until RB decided Max was 'the one'. He also was way ahead of Seb in their year together.Tyre Smoke said:
Did he have an issue yesterday? He couldn't keep ahead of Lando when he exited the pits on fresh tyres.
No doubt team orders will come into play, as sadly DR must be regarded as the #2 now... such a shame, because on paper it should have been a dream team.Edited by Milkyway on Monday 11th July 14:00

When was he last 'good'? Mid 2017? I think a No1 / No2 dynamic will naturally form at McLaren, if one driver is basically carrying the team I can't see how it wouldn't.
